The Big Game is over and we are all winners!

The Big Game is over and we are all winners!  It's Monday morning and Super Bowl XLII has entered the history books with the underdog New York Giants winning over the New England Patriots 21-17. However, as compared to many past Super Bowls, the game remained competitive, so football fans were rewarded with an entertainng game and advertisers, especially those who risked late game tv spots, should have been rewarded with enough viewers to justify their investment. NBC found a way to market the Super Bowl for the entire weekend, so certainly they are happy with themselves this morning as well.

The Big Game is over and we are all winners!

Surely the New York Giants are happy with the performance of their team, their MVP Quarterback Eli Manning and their much maligned veteran coach Tom Coughlan. They pulled off something that seemed impossible as late as December. The New England Patriots won hearts and minds all season as they rallied around their owner during the illness and the subsequent passing of his beloved wife Mrs. Myra Kraft.

The Big Game is over and we are all winners!

Professional football is a business, and a very successful one at that, but individual teams can still retain the feeling of a family and the story of Bob Kraft and the Patriots was touching and added a surprising human element to a team that is seen as a juggernaut - at least in my home.

The Big Game is over and we are all winners!

I believe the biggest winners this morning are the city of Indianapolis and the state of Indiana. Prior to last week, the economic multipliers for Super Bowl XLII were estimated between $300-$400 million. Beyond the economic impact, the positive impression of a beautiful midwestern city that works is priceless. As REALTORS, we understand the value of good publicity for our cities, towns and neighborhoods. In fact, we depend on it to sell our product.

The Big Game is over and we are all winners! With the end of the football season, the best news is that Spring can't be far behind!

I love your thread.... The Big Game is over and we are all winners!

I'm not so much into football but do watch on occasion. It was fun, we hung out with the family and our new boyfriend - we adopted our daughter's boyfriend since his parents are always working. Not really, but it feels that way sometimes. Nice kid. Going to UT Corpus for a Marine Biology Degree, not that this has anything to do with football. But, we both like eco topics!

Adios!

And what a nail biter of a game it was!  Great game but shame on the Pat college fans involved in a huge brawl.

I was a little put off by the Pats not making a statement in post game.  Who doesn't congratulate the other team publically?  I lost a lot of respect for them.

Good morning, Anne.... it was a painful game.... however, winning three times in one of the pools took the edge off losing....  I had the right numbers in the first, second and third quarter....  big win.

Cathy: when you adopt the boyfrind you know they are safe - not on the road where someone else has been drinking and driving. It's all good!

Robin and Sue: As my husband says - football is just a game, with grown men throwing a ball around infunny costumes, where other men make a lot of money. Absolutely nothing to brawl about!  Look at Egypt - althought I think that was more about the political situation than about the soccer.

Tammy: I agree!

Fernando: All in all, a great day, although a long one!

Barbara: Congrats on the pools at least!

You're exactly right, Anne.  This game is a perfect analogy for "trickle down" economics and success.  The benefits touch so many.  Kind of like real estate when it's healthy and moving the economy, huh???  Perfectly done ...

Anne~I agree that there were a lot of winners, but I bet Tom Brady isn't feeling like one right now. And yes, spring is just around the corner-Yahoo!!

Have an AWESOME day!

Definitely everyone is a winner, Anne - and I don't think we can feel too sorry for Tom Brady...good-looking, NFL QB, rich, married to a supermodel...yeah, he is a winner even if the Lombardi trophy didn't go home with him this year! :-)

Brady finds Branch on the left for the first down and gets out of bounds to stop the clock. Brady was chased around by JPP there. Hernandez got the next first down but the clock was running. A quick spike stopped the clock. A hail mary fails, but New York had too many men on the field. Penalty. That was the most nerve wracking part. Then just a few seconds, NEW YORK GIANTS ARE SUPERBOWL CHAMPIONS:  The Hail Mary bounces but no Pat can get their hands on it. Giants 21, Patriots 17. That was one exciting game.

Thanks Gene!

Tom Brady is a highly regarded quarterback on one of the most successful football teams ever. He has a very beautiful, successful model wife. Yes, Sunday wasn't his best day, but I suspect this wasn't his last successful season.

Karen ~ Agreed!

Katerina: There have been so many Super Bowls that were just awful, when the game was so lopsided. It is wonderful to see teams evenly matched, I think that was my point. Football is a sport, but it is entertainment and big business. The advertisers pay big bucks to get their message seen. If, by the end of the game, everyone is watching Heidi, the advertiser did not get what they paid for.  Also, Super Bowl Sunday had become another holiday of sorts - another chance to gather friends and family - it's all good!

When a city gets to showcase itself to the rest of the country and the world, that has to be good for business down the road. The midwest has taken such a hit in the last thirty to fifty years, I was thrilled to see how beautful Indianaplois looked and how proud its citizens were. I have calulated those economic multipliers on a small scale and often wondered how accurate they were, but I believe in the good will these major sporting events create.
