You like to watch wildlife in their environment? How bout a nice round of golf on that day in December when you find the temperature is going to be 77º?  I think I know of a perfect place for you, and I only work there. Pelican Bay, one of a few gated communities in the Daytona Beach area of Florida may be the place you are seeking.

Pelican Bay has 2 gated entrances, not manned by a keypad but each manned by a human! The community is surrounded by a lake that attracts all sorts of different wild birds, has a good amount of fish, a few otters, (yep I've seen 2) and two championship golf courses. It also has a fine clubhouse and pro shop. For more information on the actual community of Pelican Bay check out Susan Southerland's Profile page. She is very knowledgeable about the sales within Pelican Bay and about all its amenities. Oh, and if you're thinking that you can't afford a gated community? Think again! Go to Susan's Blogs, she has a listing in there for UNDER 130K, You CAN afford the Florida lifestyle!!

Me, I know more about the animal part of it, our office sits just outside the West Gate on the bank of the lake. In the morning I am greeted by a Ahinga, a waterfowl that swims and dives for fish, then it jumps out of the lake onto a branch and spreads its wings while facing into the sun to dry.

There is also some sort of small duck that sits out there in the water every morning, on occasion its mate is there too, these are also divers & swimmers. I've seen the Great Blue Heron and White Heron

fishing & hunting along side the banks, a White Heron actually caught and fought a black racer, a non poisonous local snake, final score? Heron 1, snake 0.  Red tail and sparrow hawks have posed nicely for me and just today I saw my first pair of Sand Hill Cranes in flight. I thought at first they were Whooping Cranes after seeing an news clip about a man leading some down from Canada just recently for their first migration, but looking around briefly on the internet, they are more likely to go to Texas during migration. Once you decide to venture outside of Pelican Bay we have Bald Eagles all over the place, there was a family of them living about 5 miles from my house last spring in Holly Hill.

I hope they come back this year. Its never a surprise to see the dolphins swimming close to shore, they feed and frolic there a lot, the young ones are a riot to watch, they have so much fun. I actually saw a dolphin goose a pelican one day. Then, in February? The migration of the Northern Right Whale. While working at our Beachside location I was fortunate to see 15-17 of these creatures, considering there are only approximately 350 of them, maybe 300 now that is a lot. The one shown here in the photos played outside our office for 2 ½ hours,

just a week before a female known as "Piper" and her newborn calf" came by. We had two mom/calf duo's in the area that day, so we're not sure if we actually saw Piper or not .

ANYWAY, My point is, if your a birdwatcher or a golfer, Pelican Bay is a great place to live, come have a look!
