Actually its LEICESTER, and no, Leicester is not a guy called Lester, but it is a beautiful part of Buncombe County, NC mountains about 15 to 20 minutes northwest of Asheville. It is the next area for future development in the county and some of it has already started.
Long ago, Asheville grew from the center city out, but first to hit pay dirt were North and West Asheville. Now, growth is everywhere. But, Leicester has been the secret hidden from development, until now.
Leicester, as far as growth and recognition is concerned, is like Fairview and Enka/Candler once were. Until Hwy. 74 was widened into Fairview (the southeast part of the county), growth was mediocre. The four lane over Mine Hole Gap into Fairview changed all of that. Fairview exploded with new growth opportunities. Those that invested there before that growth began, were sitting pretty for the long term.
Enka/Candler (the far west part of the county) was "a country visit" until Biltmore Farms bought 1700 + beautiful acres from BASF. Even the Biltmore Square Mall could not bring large numbers of new residents until Enka Lake became Biltmore Lake.
Now, it is Leicester's turn. Highway 63 (Leicester Hwy.) is a four lane road to Newfound Rd. and then it turns into a two lane as it takes you deeper into the scenic part of our county. If one is observant, you will notice many new businesses along the way.... banks, 2 new pharmacies, a Sonic with a new condo and single family home subdivision above it, a large Ingles supermarket, another new subdivision, Leicester Village, and many more small businesses. Further out Hwy. 63 are several new subdivisions, Rose Hill Plantation, Whisper Mountain, Red Oak Plantation, and others.
The east side of Leicester along the Madison County line now has a new 3,600 acre conservation/game lands area owner by the tax payers of North Carolina (which most Asheville agents know nothing about), a new luxury, gated community called River Highlands at Madison Crossing, and new subdivisions on Bear Creek Rd., such as The Ridge and Bear Creek Hills.
Maybe its time you took a closer look at the opportunities Leicester is offering before it too becomes too expensive for the "regular" people.
By the way, I have two 3 acre lots for sale with gorgeous views, easy access, just off a paved road before you get
to the River Highlands property. One lot has more wooded area and is listed for $106,500. The other has open views and is listed for $119,000. The lots sit next to each other, and therefore can be purchased as one lot for $216,000. Owner financing is available with at least 20% down.
