The most difficult aspect of reaching your goals and dreams is the ability to stay the course. The terms goal and goal achievement are tossed around in today's world in such a simplistic way that achievement and success should be simple, right? There are scores of books written and published each year telling you that if you make goals you will be successful.
While that statement is a fact, all too often there is one key word always left out of the equation to goal and dream achievement.
Focus.
Webster's dictionary defines focus as the concentration of attention or energy on "something." Our lives are so full of change on a day-to-day basis it is easy to lose this focus. Sometimes it almost seems as though people are intentionally trying to prevent us from achieving the success that we desire, wouldn't you agree?
All to often I have seen people give up on their dreams because the ability to focus in the face of adversity resigned them to giving up their quest. When I ask people why they give up, the most common answers that I receive is that "it is to hard" or "you just wouldn't understand," or "I am so busy, this just isn't a good time."
Professional speaker and author Bryan Dodge is often heard saying, "Life is too short to be unhappy, and too long to not be successful." I cannot think of a single phrase that better describes life.
From this moment on, please do not catch yourself making one of the three excuses that I listed above or any variation of them. This is your life, you only have one shot at this thing. Giving up is no longer an option for you. You can do it, you can do anything that you desire as long as you believe it.
