Carlsbad - Shopping Until You Drop (or your mouse-click finger aches)

The holiday season is here once again...the retailers favorite. The catalogs have been arriving (about 5-10 per day) for weeks now and the countdown until Christmas (for those who celebrate) has begun.

I tend to be a point and click shopper, with a few exceptions. But for those in the Carlsbad area who prefer bricks and mortar, and need to experience the thrill of touching before you buy and wrestling others aside to reach that one last sale item, Carlsbad offers you the experience of the Carlsbad Premium Outlets.

This outdoor mall is located just north of Palomar Airport Road at 5620 Paseo del Norte, conveniently off the I-5 Freeway (30 minutes north of San Diego and about the same south of the Orange County border) and offers a wealth of shopping opportunities, especially now that the holidays are here. They claim you can save 25% - 65% everyday - I won't dispute that since I haven't a clue - and with about 100 stores to choose from, it sounds like you could spend a day or two here just shopping.

The mall is best known for the designer-name stores which most folks recognize Barney's Polo Ralph Lauren, Banana Republic, Lacoste, Kenneth Cole, Anne Klein, Calvin Klein, Tommy Hilfiger and more. Other specialty stores include Bose, Crate and Barrel, BabyGap, Coach, Dooney and Bourke, Harry and David, and Fossil. There are about 12 shoe stores, a dozen or so eateries and more.

The Carlsbad Premium Outlets are part of a larger chain of outlet malls around the country (around 23 states) plus Japan, Mexico and South Korea.

Holiday shoppers - get out your cash (anyone still use that?) and charge cards and head for the mall.

The Forum in South Carlsbad also provides a fairly upscale shopping experience (at the intersection of Calle Barcelona and El Camino Real, about 10 minutes south).

Jeff, I discovered online shopping 3 years ago, and I'm instantly hooked. I go to the mall when I have to, but that's not veryoften.

I have my check book out...so where do start first?:)

Jeff, I hate shopping so my wife does all the Christmas shopping. That means that the only person I have to shop for is her and even then I put it off until the last minute. Maybe this year I will try the point and click method :)

Linda - I am an avid on-line shopper (when I shop). I hate malls and avoid them at all costs, especially during the holidays!

Neal - well, it depends on if you are going to treat yourself or think of others...or both. I can always find stuff I like for the house at Crate and Barrel. Have a great holiday tomorrow!

LOL, George. I am pretty much the same. While I SOMETIMES do some shopping in advance, I have a reputation for shopping on the very last day. Doesn't work for on-line due to shipping but I still often don't do anything until the last possible moment.
