The Discreet Beauty of Fort Myers Historical Area

By
Real Estate Agent with Premier Florida Realty of SWFL

Sometimes when I try to mix pleasure with work I wonder around the area of Ft Myers also known as the Historic district, and drive not only with a client or two in my mind, but am taken by the Old Florida area of Mac Gregor and take another look at these South West FLoridian Victorian homes where Edison and Ford used to reside in the winter months side by side. The homes where build in 1916 and still have their original furniture"   Edison & Ford Homes.

I bought with me a couple of addresses of homes of interest for one of these clients and was surprised by the willingness of the present owners to have kept this Old Florida charm as it was but restored and modernized.Under is an example of a home which caught my eye and is for sale for $449,000 with over 1800 square feet with its orginal pine wood floors and now the granite counter tops in the kitchen and the wood burning fire place.

I look back at the Edison and Ford home which is located between the McGregor Bld and the River and is now a tremedous botanical garden where banyans trees provide a canopy over the walking path for visitors.Even though my soul is in Fort Myers Beach, at times I dream along these parts of Fort Myers along the Caloosahatchee River. I still will look again for a home for these clients and have found others in the low $300K and less. Feeling part of history would invite many to drive by and I would not be surprised if many would love to live next to Thomas Edison and Henry Ford.

Beautiful homes Lloyd - they look like "Florida Vernacular" at its best.  There are a lot of these being restored in the Keys with Metal roofs - they look stunning.

Hello,

Are you a realtor? I have a home in downtown Ft.Myers ( right downtown) that was built in 1900. It has the original wood floors, the metal roof and has been renovated to a high standard with granite, stainless steel appliances, jacuzzi tub etc. The lot is the only one of it's kind downtown and measures 200' x 168' ( almost an acre). If you are a realtor or know of anyone interested in this type of home I would like to talk to you. Thank-you
