That's right boys & girls, today is December 20th, 2006; after today it will only be 12 more days until January 1st, 2007!

What does your 2007 look like so far???

Have you set any goals for the new year???

I have a lot of thoughts running through my mind but I haven't committed to the "Official 2007 Goals List" as yet.

I'm currently reading uber real esate coach Dirk Zeller's book "The Champion Real Estate Agent" and so far one of the things I've taken from the book to put into action is to stay in better contact with past clients. I do that now on a sort of sporadic basis but I see the huge value in maintaining 'top of mind' awareness with this very valuable group of past clients and customers.

I promote home warranties in every transaction I'm involved in for two reasons; 1. I see the value they offer for new homeowners and 2. I see the liability protection potential they offer to sellers and their listing agent (especially if that agent is me.) ;-)

Most warranty companies send whoever sold it some sort of notification when it's used by a buyer or seller. Yesterday in the mail I got 3 separate post cards saying they had serviced and/or repaired a dishwasher, a stove, and a HVAC unit. That's a great opportunity to make a follow up call and say something like "Hey Nancy, I see where you had a problem with your dishwasher, did you get it taken care of OK?". "That's great, good thing we had that warranty isn't it?". "BTW, know anyone that's thinking of................................".

So 1 resolution and goal for me in 2007 is going to be to do a much better job of following up and keeping in touch; I know it pays huge benefits and I also know a regular, consistant program will do even better for me.

i love those warranty notifications, too!  the folks are always surprised that we know how much money they saved and what was repaired.

Jim every time I read your post I get more homework; I guess I will say thank you! I realized when I read your resolution and goal at the end that keeping in touch, except through emailing my blog posts, is a weak spot for me. So thanks I guess! LOL

Staying in great contact with past clients is

so simple

so neglected

so important.

Thanks for reminding us yet again. Maybe one day we'll get it right.

Touching those clients on a regular basis is probably one of the biggies.  It just takes one cocktail discussion or similar conversation with a past client that discloses they went with someone else because they forgot you worked with them previously to convince me I should have "kept in touch".  I hate when that happens.
