Sandoway House Nature Center in Delray Beach

There are not many nature centers that are housed in a home that is on the National Register of Historic Places but that’s exactly what the Sandoway House Nature Center is.

Sandoway House

The structure was built in 1936 and located just across from the Atlantic Ocean  in Delray Beach.  There are shark feedings, nature walks, educational programs, astronomy nights, summer camp and other special events.

Upstairs is a private shell collection that is the largest (10,000 museum quality shells) in Southeast Florida, a Florida Reptile room and another room devoted to historic Delray.   And to get a better view of the ocean, you can step out on the observation deck!

Interesting information.  What I find most interesting is there is a 10,000 shell collection...why?

Gary- well you know how it goes...you start with one shell and then next thing you know you have 10,000!

John-When we were there we saw several families with their little ones.

Janice- come on down.  It's been rainy this week but the sun will come back soon.

Sharon- so glad you liked it.  Stop by if you're ever in South Florida.

BARFF- You'd love it... come on down.  You'd have the best of both worlds... nice weather year 'round.

Lou- Thanks.. hope you make it there some day.

Sharon- oh yes they would!! There a little room where the kids can "did" for fossils. We'd have a flock of snowbirds!

Hi Kathy--what a great venue.  All that history in the building and an amazing nature collection. I would bet the 10,000 shells have to be pretty phenomenal.  That is one thing we don't have here on Maui is shells because of the coral reefs that surround the islands.  It is always something I enjoyed about being on Florida beaches.
