If you haven't noticed, going Green has been going main stream. If anything, you can thank Al Gore for that. Green awareness has never been higher, and manufacturers and home builders are starting to jump on the bandwagon. There are more "green" projects than ever before, especially for Nevada. The largest green project under construction is still CityCenter, but the upcoming Union Park project will be larger.

Going green has hit every market, even the internet. You can now get a webhost that powers your site by solar energy like this green blog, Green Talk. There is even a site that lists only Green homes. Whether you like it or not, green is here to stay. -Charles

People wanting to conserve is a natural thing when energy cost jump up. Al Gore has nothing to do with it. His motivations are not what you may think. I however agree we need to conserve and become better stewards of our areas.

Charles,I've been noticing the same here for quite sometime now. I wonder if its possible to reverse the damage that we have already done, though. Personally, although I really enjoy all the rockets that we send to space, I wonder how much damage that has done to the ozone layer, as well.

I'm with Eric on this.  Al Gore had nothing to do with it.  Actually.. I think he may even be hurting the cause.

Anyway the "Green Revolution" started because of economic and ethical motivations.  People dying because of what industrial practices produce and high energy costs is what has driven the cause.  And like anything else, once a cause has momentum, politicians and celebrities jump on the band wagon so that they are not left behind.

The earth is capable of healing from what has happened though our mismanagement, but what we need to do now is stop the damage.  Green Housing and environmentally friendly design will do just that.

Interesting bout the solar power Blogs. Why not call them Slogs..LOL!

I'm with Daniel. Gore is riding the wave not powering it.

Hi Charles - with all the talking about "Green" there is still little discussed about Xeriscaping, which is still green.

Happy Thanksgiving to you and Jacqulyn.

See ya in a little over one week.

Yes, it is - we started this trip in the 60's and as the boomers reach retirement age, going green is becoming universally accepted - finally!!!

Like him or not, Gore got the ball rolling. Glenn, xeriscape is pretty big here. The water district will give you a rebate for updating your yard to a xeriscape landscape. -Charles

Jennifer - the question really is what gives the biggest impact for the dollars spent - some can go completely overboard with green.

Bill and Barbara - many of us are from the 60's - but have you noticed that younger people are less involved than back in the 60's?

Charles - how does the rebate work?  It sounds like it might be the way to go even in Florida.  We are about 15 inches of rain below norm here.  And my lawn looks like the desert. LOL

You have to contact the Water district first. They send someone out to verify you are removing grass and replacing it with the proper xeriscape materials. Once its done, you send them the cost and they rebate you a portion based on the size of the area converted. -Charles

Hi Jacqulyn:

I think there are multiple reasons why folks are going green, not the least of which is related to saving greenbacks. Other folks feel helping the earth is reason enough to build environmentally friendly homes and offices.

Charles, since you've been touched by the green I'd love to hear more about Las Vegas going green. With all of your building and water usable what is Las Vegas doing?

Bill - it is nice to see people thinking green - but years ago it was Saving the Earth.  New day new way of saying the same thing.

Dena - when I visited the Phoenix area many years back - their way of watering lawns was to flood it - now that seems like a waste of water resources.

Charles - do they water lawns that way in Vegas?

Glenn:

"Saving the Earth" sounded just a little too grand of a concept ( although I totally agree with the sentiment), "Going Green" feels more personal/local. It is the same thing, but I think it is accessable to more people. I guess it is all in the eye of the beholder.

Dena, the state has made green projects more attractive. I put up a post about it on lvrealty.net about dollars and sense. The lawn watering is on a strict schedule here with the days and duration you are allowed to water. If you don't follow it, you can be heavily fined.
