LOL, Ray. No question it's excess. Even the homeowners in the article concede that point. Noone needs a gym the size of most people's entire house.
Whether it's obnoxious ... now THAT is purely in the eye of the beholder. Frankly, how people view it may depend on the project's future inhabitant, their attitude and their behavior.
I live in Southern California and even within the luxury market, there are definitely strata. This article merely focuses on the top tier of that pyramid, and the truth is, most Realtors don't ever begin to dream that big, let alone acquire the skills necessary to operate in that segment of the market.
Besides ... in most of these cases, there probably isn't a traditional Realtor commission involved, except on the land. Perhaps some consulting fees on entitlement work or putting the team together, but where's the sale with custom new construction?
The opportunity for Realtors is on the other side of these deals; when the original owner decides it no longer meets their needs. It could be a few years or several decades ... one never knows what life will bring or why a sale might become desirable or necessary. One thing's for sure ... whenever they DO hit the market, these properties will turn heads and make headlines ... and there will be a long line of prospective takers.
Hi Ray,
Doesn't everybody need a 49000 square foot home?
And just think of all the jobs they are creating. Each home is creating more jobs than Obama has in his entire career!
