Folks, real estate agents are people, just like you.  A lot of folks seem to think that real estate agents are akin to the plague, or something similar.  Take it from me; we are people.  And guess what?  We have feelings as well.  I know this may come as a shock to some of you, but it is true!  Trust me; and give us a chance.
I bring this up because of a listing appointment we had last week.  We got a call from a client who wanted us to talk to one of his relatives.  This relative is also a former client of ours.  We had this home listed earlier in the year, but the folks decided to take it off the market because they decided they no longer wanted to sell their home in Myrtle Beach.  Their plan was to sell their home in Myrtle Beach and move back to New Jersey because they missed being there.  They decided they would give it another shot in Myrtle Beach, so they took their home of the market.

Well, a couple of months passed and they decided that they really wanted to be back in New Jersey.  They asked a relative to call us because "they were embarrassed" because they had their home on the market, off the market, and now wanted it back on the market again.  They said that they felt bad for having us take it off the market in the first place.  No reason to feel bad.  This is our job.  It's what we do.  But we also understand that sometimes things don't work out.
Folks, we're people too.  We know that sometimes change is hard.  I lived in Iowa for two years because of a job promotion.  I loved the job, but hated the place.  Living in Iowa is a lot different than living in Myrtle Beach.  Nothing against Iowa, but it wasn't what I am used to.  So I jumped at the chance when I had the opportunity to come back home.  I'm human.  I gave it a shot, but wasn't happy.  So I came back home.  Our clients were relieved when we told them about this situation.  They felt more of a bond with us once they knew this.

Just like these folks want to go back home.  How about that?  These clients have something in common with a real estate agent!  Whatcha think about that?

Good to hear that Real Estate agents are people too!  Now if we can convince Americans that all mortgage brokers are not thieves or crooks - we will be coming a long way!

Great Post! If you think that Agents have it rough, try being a home inspector. Talk about being the scourge of society!!!

I'm not so sure it has to do with the fact that our clients see us as some sort of fictional character as it does with simple human nature -- few people really want to upset another person or make that person unhappy. Many people also have a tendency to look out for number one. So it's not astonishing that they would try to avoid conflict as much as possible to still achieve what they want.

David - Nicely done.  You make a great point here.  The other thing that is hard to stomach sometimes is clients who "don't want to waste our time" by looking at too many homes.  I appreciate the sentiment behind it, but this is my profession - call me!
