Indian Point is a nuclear power energy generation facility on the east bank of the Hudson River in Westchester County, NY. It is owned and operated by Entergy Nuclear. This facility is close to portions of Orange, Rockland and Putnam Counties in New York State. Officials of these counties have developed a comprehensive emergency plan, in cooperation with New York State and Entergy Nuclear. The plan includes information and procedures for protecting the public in a wide range of possible emergencies.

A key component of the plan is the New York State Office of Emergency Management's web site for the Joint Information Center. Westchester, Orange, Rockland and Putnam Counties, New York State and Entergy are partners in this public education web site. The site provides daily information on Indian Point's plant conditions and efforts to protect your health and safety. Should an emergency occur, this web site would give you official information on the emergency response activities undertaken by the counties, New York State and Entergy.

It is vitally important for those who live within range of potentially dangerous power plants to be aware of emergency plans for the facility and its neighbors. Individuals need to know in advance what to do in the event of an emergency in order for all to run smoothly and safely.

Rosario -It is reassuring for those of us living or working near a nuclear plant to have information like this at our disposal.

I am sure it is good having this information readily available - I lived in Europe during the Chernobyl disaster and remember that I could only purchase powdered milk from the States (which I got through connections) for my children. I did not feel it was safe giving them fresh milk! We all watched the charts for the wind flows to see where radiation was being carried - it was a scary time!

Great information Derrick - nuclear is in fact the safest, cleanest, cheapest energy out there and i think we need to build these things all over the country. Safety has to be the top priority and clearly this place is run very responsibly.
