When new agents or experienced agents are looking for a real estate office to affiliate with, there are some good basic questions to consider in that process:
- How long has that particular office been in business and in this community?
- What about the principals with the firm...How long have they been active not only as agents, but as active participating owners or managers?
- Is the organization a member of the Better Business Bureau? If so, for how long? Are there any unanswered complaints against the company? (Not all complaints are valid.)
- Is the firm a member of the local Chamber of Commerce and for how many years?
- How is the firm's reputation in the community?
- Is the firm active in the local association of Realtors? For how many years? Does the firm help develop leadership ?
- Does the firm have adequate support staff with experience?
- Does the firm have quality liability and E and O insurance available? What is covered?
- Is there any possibility of health benefits or other consumer benefits through the organization's affiliations?
- What kinds of training does the company offer? Does it bring in any 3rd party training programs or is it all just company oriented training?
- How is the company's technology? Does it come up easily on Internet searches? Does the firm expect all agents to be computer savey, or does it guide them through the complexities?
- What kinds of advertising does the firm do?
- What expenses does the firm carry and what does the agent carry?
These are just a few of the questions new or experienced agents may want to consider when interviewing to affiliate with an office. Remember biggest, may not be best for you. You may want to work with a firm that best suites your particular style and offers the kind of support you need. Pay careful attention to what your net is going to be as an agent , and just like the consumers we serve... Price is just part of the picture. The terms is the other part. Ask lots of questions and you won't go wrong!
Best wishes,
