I was shocked to learn that Whitney Houston died this afternoon, way too young, at the age of 48. She was found in a hotel in Los Angeles; the cause of death is unclear at this time and is being investigated. Originally from New Jersey and related to other notables such as Dionne Warwick, Cissy Houston and Aretha Franklin, she reportedly sold 170 million albums during her career and was not only a singer, but also a model, actress and producer. She suffered through a tumultuous marriage and a bitter divorce and used drugs excessively in recent years. She was a tremendous talent and will always be remembered. Whitney Houston - Rest in Peace.

I "grew up"with Whitney. Her song, "I Wanna Dance with Someone" kept me going till I found my life partner. I actually started to cry as I watched that video.

Also had the opportunity to see her in concert once...from THE FRONT ROW!

To many great ones at to early an age. Fame and fortune are not all they are cracked up to be, and many, many of these celebs lead tough lives despite all their money, trying to hide from the world or deal with what the world expects from them.

And they don't always succeed.

May she rest in peace.

I'm saddened. She was divorced from Bobby Brown for a number of years, unfair to say he was still influencing her, and we assume he was or did which may / may not be true. Either way, she was getting better and on track in 2009. This is how powerful addictions are. Quite sad. I feel badly for her young daughter. It must be a tragic upset for her right now.
