Residential vs. Commercial Blogging

By
Real Estate Agent with Dimension Properties

I'm pretty new to the blogging scene, but have gotten into it the last couple of weeks.  I have friends at Zillow and friends in the residential real estate business that use this media outlet to reach and inform the new age real estate consumer.

My question is, as a Commercial Real Estate agent, is blogging a legitimate outlet that can be used to benefit both the consumer and the agent?

I've done some searching through various popular blogging sites such as raincityguide.com, our site activerain.com and zillowblog.com and have yet to see any significant input by Commercial Real Estate agents.

Do investors actually use the internet for anything other than searching for actual multi family property listings?  Has anyone else out there posted commercial blogs before?  If you are interested, what topics of discussion are you looking for?

I'd love to hear any input from agents and investors.

I have personally been involved in the blogosphere for about 6 weeks now and have not come across a commercial blog as of yet. But that doesn't mean that they aren't out there. I have three blogs (real/diaBlog, Loudoun Stats and The Ashburn Community Blog) going and I have connected to many excellent blogs, people and contacts in the process.

I would suggest going to google's blog search (beta) along with other blog search engines and searching around to see what you can find. I have a list of other blog directories on real/diaBlog you can check out if you'd like.

The same principal will apply once you find a few commercial blogs out there. Blogs are very viral and you will soon find yourself with 10+ open windows and reading away for hours.

Good luck and make sure you have a fresh pot of coffee!

Henry, I think this would be an excellent venue for your to participate in. We need more commercial perspectives on here. You have a great deal of untapped potential for creating specific groups relevant to commercial needs & issues. I would recommend creating your own Commercial Real Estate Group, both one that is national in scope, and another that is more regional to your own business. And then start blogging and contributing to each group.

What I think I'll do is keeping blogging on activerain for the time being and maybe think about creating my own site/blog during Q1 of next year.  I've gotten a decent number of hits on my post, but I'd like to establish myself a bit more in the blogging community before I venture out onto my own site.

Thank you for your support.

Henry,

Check out blogs such as CopyBlogger and Mary McKnight's blog for information on blogging and how to get the best results. These two along with several others have helped me and hundreds of others get off the ground. They are a great resource and there for all of us.

Good luck and let me know if I can be of help!
