There has been talk about a staging dictionary which is a fabulous idea.  Until it becomes a reality, here is my version of a staging translating guide.

You have ugly wallpaper.
-translation-
Let's update these walls.

Your faux finishing is a faux pas.
-translation-
Faux finishing is a personal preference.

Your knick knack collection is way out of hand.
-translation-
Let's start packing these things for your new house.

What is that smell?
-translation-
Here are some home freshening ideas.

The computer does not belong in the master suite.
-translation-
Let's make your room feel romantic.

Your bathroom is disgusting.
-translation-
Thorough cleaning is recommended in all areas.

Your dog has to go.
-translation-
Fido would love to spend some time at Grandma's house.

It's all in the wording.   Happy staging!

Kristina,

How funny! Being able to be diplomatic is a great skill that is essential when dealing with people on such a personal level. Sometimes I'd like to say "let's start by bringing in some dumpsters...."

Kristina~ Great idea!! we need that dictionary of pollitically correct staging sayings.

client: I let my son be creative and he is so artistic, don't you love these paintings on the wall?

Stager: Although your son is very artistic!!! Perhaps you can take pictures....one day youll remember how great it looked!, because it might not appeal to all buyers. By painting it in a neutral color not only the room is going to look bigger but it will look fresh....by the way lets start packing all the (smelly) snickers and keep them in the garage, it will simply make the walk in closet less cluttered .

Kristina,

Thanks for the giggle. When I started decorating and staging I had to work really hard to be diplomatic. I'm one of those people who just tell you what they think...blunt. I've mastered diplomacy with clients...now I have to work on being diplomatic with family!

Cute post, Kristina! Sometimes it's hard to be positive when faced with an overwhelming house!! Good to laugh about it..
