Leadership

By
Real Estate Agent with Aubrey and Associates Realty

During the down time from working yesterday, I picked up a book that I had purchased some time ago.  It is entitled the Leadership Secrets of the Rogue Warrior, by Richard Marcinko.  It is not a very lenghty read, but a highly interesting one.  Using his experience as a leader in the US Navy, especially with the Navy Seals, he outlines his rules of leadership.

While I will not go into the particulars of the book(I think that it takes away from the book to only do snippets from it), I will say that it is written in a very understandable format.  Drawing on his Naval experiences as well as real life examples from outside of the Navy.  I found it to be a fun yet inciteful read.  If nothing else, it was a little more productive than just watching football, although I did a lot of that also.

Anyway, have a great weekend!

We're reading The Cell right now. A different ballpark than leadership, but those that I know who are involved in in catching the bad guys right now have had much experience either as or with seals. Will remember your suggestion here, and thanks for it.

cheers

I like these posts, it's like a word version of the posters like "teamwork" and "success", great stuff, keep it coming. Once you have completed your posts, you could turn them into a book.

Tony, thanks for pointing out the book. The leadership traits that the military shares very much work in the civilian world.

Tony - It is a great book.  I read it years ago and it is very succinct and completely right on on from a guy who was a bit outside the fringe.

Thanks for your comments.  I really like Marcinko's books, I have read several.  I do feel that many of the principles that he brings out are viable in our profession.  I have a copy of his book on management, and I may comment about that on a blog, if there is anything different.  I do appreciate the comments, and contributions that each of you make to AR, this is a great place to share and learn.  It is a great help to me, and Frank, thanks for your comments, I try to stay positive, and write things to build up rather than tear down.  There is enough negativity in the world as it!  Thanks again!
