The retail looks forward to this day (Black Friday) with anticipation of taking their profit and loss balance sheets from the "red" and into the "black".

I have another view of today.  This is the first business day of the holiday season and the market traditionally plummets.  There will be very little there for agents to scratch up until December 26th. On the day after Christmas real estate activity usually spikes and continues to surge until mid January.

This isn't the time to beat your head against the wall trying to rustle up new business and likewise it isn't the time to just quit and take four weeks off.  Take the pulse of your business by contacting your past clients and reevaluating your marketing plan.  Make adjustments now so that you're in good position to exploit the bonus activity occurring around the new year.  If you wait, you'll miss out on a serving of gravy.

Happy Holidays!

Hi Larry:  I think part of your first statement about there being very little there for agents to scratch up until December 26 can often be a self-fulfilling prophecy.

This is not the time to beat one's head against the wall... iIagree.  I think a marketing reevaluation should have begun about six weeks ago... and then evaluating and revising it weekly throughout October, November and December.

I very much agree that contacting past clients and making meaningful contact with one's "sphere of relationships" is of great value.

Hi Larry, The slowdown is actually a welcome break here in Wenatchee.  I suspect activity will slow during the winter and we will experience some pent up demand in the Spring.   I am re-evaluating my marketing tools and looking forward to the next few months.   What are your favorite marketing tools?  What works best for you?  I posted a blog earlier today on this subject.

Maybe because it is in the 60's and 70's as to our temperature, but Friday after Thanksgiving was an extremely busy day here and I wrote a contract yesterday and have appointments scheduled throughout the rest of the weekend......and expect business everyday except Christmas Day through the end of the year....

This is usually a very good time of the year for me.  Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years Day are only 3 days not the 41 days between Thanksgivng and New Years.  It doesn't hurt to keep working.  Enjoy the holidays but don't stop doing what makes you successful.

Karen ... I think you're right and agents that have planned for this season will fair better.

Carol ... Yours is kind of a destination/recration market and I've observed that late summer is a peak of activity for you.  I'm posting a new blog to answer your questions.

Julie ... Congratulations!  Keep making hay while the sun shines.

Philip ... I agree with you - definately continue doing what is proven to work for you.

Good post.It is important to contact past clients now as most people planning to move in spring make up their minds at this time.

We definately have to make the most productive use of our time no matter the season or market condition.
