The Arts Barn Theatre presents Paul Morella in "Underneath the Lintel," a one-man show by Glen Berger. The play runs March 2 through 18, 2012, with performances on Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m. Admission is $24, $22 for City residents. This show contains adult language and is appropriate for those 12 and older, with parental guidance suggested.
Morella stars as the "Librarian," the sole character in Berger's "Underneath the Lintel," who finds a guidebook 113 years overdue anonymously deposited in the overnight return box. It is this discovery, along with a string of clues, which sets the main character off on an around-the-world journey to find the book’s tardy borrower. Through his travels, the Librarian unravels a mystery that brings him to the realization of a world much larger than he ever expected.
The Los Angeles Times says, "Berger has shown a penchant for men obsessively investigating truths that blind them to more ordinary pursuits of happiness. This one-man show is no exception. It's a satisfying mix of intelligent writing and quirky humor in a package that isn't neatly wrapped up with pat answers."
The one man in this one-man performance is area actor Paul Morella, a multiple Helen Hayes award nominee whose 30 year career has included professional appearances in regional theatre, film, television, and radio. His local credits include leading roles at Arena Stage, Signature Theatre, Studio Theatre, Olney, Woolly Mammoth, Theatre J, Folger, and many others. He has presented two other one-person shows at the Arts Barn - A Passion For Justice and A Christmas Carol - both of which subsequently enjoyed extended runs at Olney Theatre. His film and television credits include The Pelican Brief, The Replacements, That Night, The Hunley and Diner, among others, and he has had recurring roles in The Wire, Homicide, The Corner, and The District. He has starred opposite Julie Harris and James Farentino in All My Sons, and Marsha Mason and Fred Thompson in The Best Man, both for LA Theatre Works.
