The Return Of Willy-The-Hyper-Active-Labradoodle-Puppy

On this Saturday after Thanksgiving, I have something to be thankful for.

Willy's back!

He's my incredibly cute, though incredibly energetic, Labradoodle.

While my bathrooms were being redone, and with all the lead paint dust loose in the house, my sister, Bairbre, and her dog whisperer boyfriend offered to dog-sit.  Now that the work is pretty much done, we decided it was time for Willie's return.

Octavio, the dog whisperer, has had crazy Willie doing a boot camp.  He made great progress, I was told.

Yeah, right

But I'm the one that needs a dog training boot camp!  I know that dog training isn't for the dog.  It's for the humans!

He's chewed a bedroom slipper.   My George Kovaks lamp has a chewed cord, and there is a black smudge on the outlet it was plugged into.

Luckily for Willie, God made him cute.  He was a cute puppy, and he's an adorable, affectionate dog.

So tomorrow, we're going to the neighborhood doggy play group - where they can run around like little lunatics and wear each other out.

When Willy and I figure this out, he' going to be my real estate mascot.  I don't kow that I'll ever put a picture of him on my business card - he'd upstage me!  But I will use him in some of my marketing stuff.

Maybe I can get my neighbor to slip me some of her son's Ridelin.

Patricia - he is sooooooooooo cute!  My neighbor has a labradoodle and she was a total handful when she was a puppy.  They wound up taking here to obedience classes and now she is one of the best mannered dogs I have ever seen.

So glad he is home with his 'mom'.  And I know you're glad to have him back!

He looks pretty irresistible!  Regarding the chewing thing, I'm sure he'll calm down over time.

Patricia, you puppy is wonderful. Our golden is the heart of our family and she is so sweet. We are all so blessed to have these wonderful companions. Thanks for sharing! Ginger is two now and does not chew. We give her raw-hide things and "pig ears"....gross! That helped the chewing. Enjoy the love with your puppy!

He is very cute indeed!!  How old is he?  My dog, Casey didn't "calm-down" until she was just over 2 years old.

Labs and poodles are two of the smartest dogs you can have!  Good luck with him.

My little dog is over 2 years old now and he still chews stuff up.  He snatches stuff and when I notice it, he runs away from me shaking whatever it is in his mouth - still thinks its a game.  I learned that when I ignore him and start to walk the other way he usually stops and brings it back to me.  I've learned to play the "well, I don't care game" with him.

Patricia,

This is NOT to scare you. I think my lab, Skye, was an unusually chewy dog. But, in her first two years, she destroyed one sofa, the matching loveseat, ALL my outdoor patio cushions, ALL the sprinkler heads, and chewed through the outdoor Cable TV cable 3 times!!! I am happy to say that she did stop chewing and is a wonderfully CALM dog. She is also living with my ex now, and I miss her so much!!!!

Your dog is adorable...and will one day be a relaxed, well-mannered dog! Hang in there!

Chris, puppy training being a challenge seems to be an understatement!

Daniel, that sounds like an interesting combination!  Poodles seem to mix well with a lot of breeds.

Linda, yes, he is so cute that I seem to mind the  chewing a little less.

Peggy, he's like the men I've loved - really cute and really challenging!  Oh, and fun!

Carol, how old is your neighbor's dog?  I'm getting real mixed reports about when they start to calm down.

And Ginger, I think the chewing comes from the Lab side.

Eric, he is irresistibly cute, which is why he's not living at the Animal Rescue League!

Roberta, I know my sister's boyfriend is going to give me the DVD for Cesar Milan's show, "The Dog Whisperer" on National Geographic.  He maintains there are no bad dogs, just inept humans who don't understand them - and love them too much!

Jeanean, Willy LOVES pigs ears.  He also loves silk, and leather, and I'm going through old shoes looking for things for him to play with.  We do, however, have to reach an understanding that he can't chew any shoe, just the ones I give him to chew.

James, he is about 18 months.  Maybe we could get Willy and Casey together for a play date!

Debbie, If I ignor Willy, he just swallows whatever he is chewing.

Barbara-Jo and Bill, I don't know about the business card thing.  I have some colleagues who have two sets of business cards - one with their black lab and one without.  They use the "with" for dog people.  Everyone else gets the "without".

Katerina, there is a best friend tie tetween Mr. Willie and Mr. Snowball - the white blue eyed kitty (who does not chew my shoes and silk scarves).

And, yes, at last, Elaine!  Have you read Marley and Me? My sister gave it to me last Christmas.  It is so heartfelt and beautifully written, and it sort of prepared me for Willie's Labrador side.  It's amazing how much you can fall in love with a dog, and whatever comes up, you just deal with it.   And, yes, my cable guy has been here 4 times since Willie's arrival, and I tell him it's this nasty possum who lives under my next door neighbor's porch!
