Everyone has a pet peeve

The first impression we make on someone can be a lasting one. The only thing is, we don't know what kinds of things will turn a person off, or what kinds of things will make a favorable impression.

I had a closing last Friday in Peyton, CO. I know the streets well enough that finding my way around is no problem. I arrived at the closing a few minutes early. The closing went well.

After all of the loan documents were signed and it was time for me to leave, the borrower's wife commented that she liked the fact that I was on time. She talked about how often people have been late to their home for various things. I got the impression that this was something very important to her. I can imagine what kind of impression I would have made if I had been late. It would have set the tone for the entire closing.

We can't please everyone. No matter how 'perfect' we are, there is something about us that will be an irritant to others. We won't always know, because the other person may not say anything.

annoyed - ärgerOne thing is for certain: everyone has a pet peeve. Hopefully we're lucky enough to accidentally discover what it is.

Good luck.

Late people tick me off, too.  It's disrespectful in my humble opinion.

I am always on time,  if I am late you probably should call the cops.

Karen and Jeff, I think tardiness ranks high on everyone's list of pet peeves. I always set my watch and clocks in the house a few minutes ahead so that I'm always a few minutes early.

I wish I could say that I am always on time but am not.  My clerical staff calls if I am going to be five minutes late and speaks the the party to let them know I am going to be late.......

Leon, I know what you mean about being on time.  I get frustrated that I don't feel that I am shown respect when someone is late.  I am sure that there are things that I do, that could really frustrate some people.  I just try to watch body language, and apologize if I notice that change.  It doesn't always work, but it helps with my focus.

Being on time shows you respect her time. I can't stand when someone is late either. I know there are times when it's unavoidable but in most cases it's just downright rude. Good post.

I have done a one-eighty in terms of being late, so I can see both sides. It now really irks me when I have to wait for friends that are late...

I suppose that my biggest pet peeve is people who are impatient. That comes across in many different ways. A lot of times it's with drivers who are impatient.

I like being around people who are laid back.

The way I see it, late is about one of the only things I can control in my life.  However, not all the time.

I can't stand people being late - that is one of my pet - peeves.  I don't care if you are my best friend or one of my clients that still makes me very upset.

Great posting

Julie, that's a good idea. There are times when construction or accidents can tie us up. But at least make a call to the person to let them know.

Tony & Darcy, and Frank, I agree. It is all about respecting other people's time

Danielle, I've been on the other end too. It gives us a better perspective when we know what it feels like.

Connor, you're right. It's one of the few things we have control over.

Vincent, it's interesting you mentioned best friend. My best friend is compulsively tardy. It drove me nuts.

Konnie, you're right. You can usually get a feeling for how people perceive you.

I'm also a stickler on being on time.  If anything, I'll get to a place early.  This also can be a problem, so what I do if I'm early is call the client and tell them, "I'm a little ahead of schedule, would it be a problem if I arrived a bit early?"  They appreciate the call, and I've only had one client tell me it would be a problem, so I stopped for a cup of coffee...not a problem for me!
