In this time of celebration, festivities and indulgence many of us take a moment to think of others less fortunate. We may donate to our local food bank, The Salvation Army or Operation Christmas.

I just wanted to take a moment to let everyone know about another great organization, one that is less know because it relies on word-of-mouth. This organization is known as Sleeping Children Around the World.

There mission is simple, to supply children with bedkits because every child deserves a good night sleep every night of the year.

Each $30 donation (Canadian funds) provides a bedkit that consists of a mat or mattress, pillow, sheet, blanket, mosquito net (if applicable), clothes outfit, towel and school supplies. Bedkit contents vary from country to country depending upon local needs.

Since its founding by Murray and Margaret Dryden in 1970, SCAW has raised over $17 million to provide bedkits for over 700,000 children in 31 countries.

Every child is photographed with the bedkit, showing the donor's name/country (or special occasion message) on a label.

Each photograph is then mailed back to the original donor, providing a timeless way for the donor to remember the child who so greatly benefited from their generosity.

SCAW is operated by volunteers, from the processing of donations to the distribution of bedkits.

Their financial structure ensures that 100% of every bedkit donation reaches a needy child. They neither receive nor request funds from any level of government.

This is a great organization and in this season of remembering the birth of Christ and his first bed, what better way to celebrate than to give a child a place to sleep.

Lucie, super post! I love causes that really have a great end goal. I'm involved with several this year and will look into the SCAW in the future, the concept is excellent!

Lucie

What a great ministry. I could not imaging my grandchild not having a place to sleep. Can we all do something from AR?

Happy New Year
