Next week is Texas Severe Weather Awareness Week (January 19-25, 2012)

Individual disaster and emergency preparedness begins with staying aware of hazards that might impact you.  In our area, severe weather tops that list.

As part of our awareness activities, we are kicking off a new project with a goal to put a weather radio in the household of every Meals on Wheels of Texoma recipient.  That is 1600 Texoma households:  approximately 1000 in Grayson County and 300 each in Cooke and Fannin Counties.

One of the best ways to receive severe weather warnings and current weather information is still a good all-hazards alert weather radio. 

What can you do to help?

Donate an actual weather radio by bringing it in person to one of our drop-off locations OR make a cash donation which will be used to purchase radios.  That’s all it takes!  We will distribute the radios to Meals on Wheels recipients with a regular meal delivery.  The campaign will continue thru March 16, 2012.

Representatives from Grayson County OEM and Meals on Wheels of Texoma will be at the 107.3 DOC FM studios parking lot at 900 East Pecan Grove Road, Sherman, Texas, on Friday, February 17, from 8:00 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. to kick off this campaign.  Please stop by with your donation of a weather radio or cash.  Help provide critical emergency alerts to homebound residents in Texoma with your donation today!
