Those Amish Stars are on homes all over Maine. Do you know what they mean or if they even have a meaning?
I sell real estate in Maine for ERA Today Realty in Naples, Me. We sell all around the Sebago Lake region, and see them on the sides of homes all over the place, and figured before someone asks, I better know what the heck they are all about. It took some looking until I thought of the Amish and hexes and other parts of their cultures. Once my thoughts were on the right track, I had it. You will be able to search barn stars, Amish stars, and Amish folklore to find more information on these decades old traditions.
These stars have been made from old reclaimed tin and steel roofs of barns in the Amish counties for over three decades. They mean different things according to the colors, but mainly they represent " good luck" and " fortune". Following is a list of colors and what some view as the meanings for those colored stars. Enjoy...............
Black: Protection or blending or binding elements together.
Blue: Protection, peace, calmness & spirituality
Brown: Mother Earth, friendship, & strength.
Green: Growth, fertility, success in things and ideas that grow.
Orange: Abundance in career projects, and matters needing an added push.
Red: Emotions, passion, charisma, lust and also creativity.
Violet: Things that are sacred
White: Purity, power of the moon, allows energy to flow freely. Health in body and mind, love of man and the sun, connection to the God.

Hi Sue, I came across this late, was reading your moose photo post, and looked over your blog. I had no idea that these stars meant anything, just thought they were decorative. Thanks for sharing, Gosh, don't know if the Amish had many red ones, at least not the Wisconsin Amish. LOL.
