Active Rain Pet PEEVE

What is up with all these blog posts that have a chart with no commentary at all.  It's like the author ( I use that term loosely) takes their mouse, takes the cursor, copies the content, and pastes it in the entry area and hits submit.  WHY? WHY ? WHY ?  And another quesion, Since when did Active Rain become an MLS database ?

I guess I can just skip these posts, but can someone who does this please explain WHY?  Are the points you gain worth the time cutting and pasting?

Anyway, just alittle Pet Peeve, I know some people hate the copyright issues, but I'm sure that we'd much rather see your analysis of the numbers first, then a link to the table your copying, then perhaps some further analysis why this is important to realtors, mortgage originators, etc, etc....

Since I am the subject of your blog, I will comment.  The importance is to develop a network of links to local real estate info.  The home buyers, sellers, investors want to know the market.  Each blog we post goes out on the web and the search engines pick it up.  I want potential clients to be able to find the info they want when moving to this area.

Does this interest you?  No.  Does this interest Realtors?  I believe it does and I believe you will begin to see more and more market reports showing up as Realtors discover the value of getting clients from providing market info.  This is not about points.  It is about attracting new clients.

Below are some links that are found on Google searches and the favorable comments about other Realtors appreciating this info so they can have a comparison of real estate trends around the country.

http://activerain.com/blogsview/24982/112-E-1-th "Rob - I have to tell you that this is a really interesting rental concept."

http://activerain.com/blogsview/24776/112-E-1-th "I can't believe the rent!"

http://activerain.com/blogsview/24770/1122-Peach-Eudora-KS "Rob, At that price and square footage you should have no problem selling. I noticed there don't appear to be fences. Is that typical of your area?"

http://activerain.com/blogsview/24508/918-Pine-Eudora-KS "Rob, wow $100,00 for 1600 square feet. Sounds like a winner! Hope you receive an offer and make everyone's holiday a special one. Can't wait to see the sold sign! "

I guess I am looking at the bigger picture and thinking outside the box.  Sorry to be a pet peeve.  I hope you have a better rest of the day!

Karl: I too am trying to understand this, and acutally have posted on this same thing... and generated some VERY good and insightful comments.

You might understand more by going here: "I am better then you and I don't need to follow your rules!" And reading some of the comments others made.

Hope that helps,

Me

Karl - My long term vision for ActiveRain is that it becomes a platform where agents can focus in on their local markets via blogging. Localism.com gives you a sneak peak of where the AR Team is headed. Stats, market reports, and listings are just some of the items that consumers want to see.

Karl,

Statistics and charts are for consumers.  As long as it is not copyrighted info, "Let it Be."   I don't know who you are talking about, but it has been a hot issue lately.  Read Craig's link for more.

I think the bigger issue (provided the content isn't copyrighted) is that it is often miscatagorized.  We have a post flagging system going up by next week that should help the community automatically deal with miscatagorized, copyrighted and spam posts.
