What social networks are you using?

I've spent the last couple months trying to figure out these darn social networks.

Facebook - Here's my page - Steve Dalton Northwest Indiana Facebook

Twitter - yep the social network for those that just want to say "here's what I'm doing" Daltons Briefs Twitter

Digg - originally all about posting news, but now a social network aspect allows you to see what your friends have dugg and then help them out with positive votes and comments.  Daltons Briefs Digg

My Blog Log - a terrific way to get connected to other bloggers, now owned and operated by yahoo, so that you can increase your site's traffic.  Daltons Briefs Mybloglog

Delicious - maybe this site goes no where compared to the above sites, but I still like the relative ease of posting my favorite links. Daltons Briefs Delicious

Recently, Plaxo, formerly just a cute way to keep my outlook address book synchronized, added social networking capability.  Some nice features.  Steve Dalton Plaxo

So, where are you networking?  Am I missing one that would help me get more traffic or comments to my sites?

Some of these social networks take just too much time and seem to have limited return. Just my 2 cents.

I use Facebook and LinkedIn occasionally but most just Active Rain.

Active Rain is the first social networking that I've ever done.  I've been invited to Facebook and have a BlogLog id but haven't done anything with them.  Don't really have the time for more than AR right now.

I have thought about just setting up a profile on all of them and just see what happens. I have no way of knowing what websites will still be around or which one a new customer may come from. I just can't spend time on them all. My guess is they all will have something to offer and the strong will survive. Call me old school but the old yellow pages might still win for many.

Steve, I use many of these but AR is the best. I love the new feature on Plaxo. WOW Better than rss feed, wait it is a rss feed for my whole address book. IT doesn't get any easier than this.

Steve - I am using just AR at this time. I have been seeing mixed review on most of the other sites.  I think going out and networking in person gives a better return.

What are your thoughts on Second Life?

http://money.cnn.com/2007/03/22/technology/fastforward_secondlife.fortune/index.htm

Coldwell Banker is now selling homes "to the masses", who, I assume, will need landscaping. The idea of building Dripper, Blade, RickRock and Weed avatars that battle each other brings out the geek in me.   In all seriousness, part of our marketing plan is to develop these characters into kid-friendly icons that can be used in our advertising and the concept of Second Life seems to be a good fit.

Hey Steve.  I have profiles set up here, on Facebook (I sent you a friend request) and on Myspace.  To be completely honest, I have a lot of friends that use Myspace, so I guess I use it the most to stay in touch.

Steve, I have not figured out how to network on these other sites.    I have joined most of them but don't know what to do with them.  I get invites from active rain friends and add them as friends but from there I'm stuck.  Maybe you could write a post on how to network on them(lol).

Jean, you've taken it to a whole new level!  I need to check into this Second Life thing, sounds very interesting.

Brett, got the invite and accepted.

Marchel, I was travelling today so I'm sorry it took so long to respond.  I will do just that, good idea.   I think I'll ask some other smarter people to help me on that post.

Missy, I have to agree, Plaxo really hit it right.  I needed a good synchronizer for contacts, having pulse right there is awesome.  No extra work, no extra posts, but I can see what everyone's done today.

To everyone, I love to learn.  I have learned so much over the last couple months.  Just watching the great bloggers on twittter, teaches me everytime I watch.

Hi Steve, I followed the link in your comment to the post "Social Networking for...." here to your post.  While I am a member of all the social sites there (very new and don't utilize them very effectively though) I did not know anything at all beyond reading their names for the sites you have linked.  It was interesting to see them...I always wondered how del.ic.ious and twitter looked and what they do.  Thanks to you I have a better idea!

Deborah, I have accepted on Facebook.  This week I'm spending my time adding to my contacts and friends so that I can do more commenting and vice versa.

I hate to admit it, but aside from Active Rain, I am a Myspace junkie!  I have gotten business from it, and all of my friends are on it...must be my age.

I use many different social networks but one of new favorites is www.tumblr.com.  It's a cross between blogging and microblogging and you can follow others and collect followers yourself a la Twitter style.  I haven't used it for real estate, it's been more personal stuff, but in my life it all ties together. :)

I have had some success on social networks. The ones I use are

A.R (of course, I believe it is the best)

Like someone previously stated, it does take up a considerable amount of time, but I do believe after time,  it has does reap some rewards. Even a few contacts made (for free) are better than nothing.

Hi Steve: You've mentioned a couple of networks that I haven't even heard of.  I'll have to check them out and see what they're all about.  I mostly stick to AR and recently joined Facebook.

Ed, since I wrote this article i think I've found even more tricks and tips:

On twitter I now use twitter feed to automatically load my blog posts from all my sites directly into twitter, which of course then automatically slams them into plaxo and facebook too.   With each connection like this we get closer to having all our interesting information in one place.
