Portsmouth steps up to celebrate all the holidays but we pull out all the stops in December for things to do. I have put together a short list of happenings to share with you and also to get my own schedule organized. Now there's a win-win situation.

Friday November 30 Downtown Christmas Tree Lighting 6pm in Market Square. ProPortsmouth organizes this event and is asking everyone to bring a canned food item with them for the Seacoast Food Pantry. You can also drop off donations at the Chamber of Commerce on 500 Market Street.

Starting Saturday December 1 28th Annual Candlelight Stroll at Strawbery Banke from 4-9pm. This event opens up the historic house musuems for the first 3 weekends of the month. Please stop by the Gingerbread House competition and cast your vote for "Cottage on Snowflake Lane"! This is our second year competing as a family. Last year we won 2nd prize with "Cottage on Cookie Blvd"

Saturday December 1 & Sunday December 2 Button Factory Open Studios from 11am to 5pm. The grand daddy of all craft shows in the area. The Button Factory originally manufactured the buttons for high-button shoes but 21 years ago it started its new life as studio space for artists and craftspeople. This gigantic red brick complex is located at 801 Islington Street. It is so special to see inside the studios of so many of our resident artists and to support them directly by purchasing their work.

Saturday December 1 Illuminated Christmas Parade at 6pm. Starting at Hanaford's at 800 Market Street and winding through Portsmouth downtown to the South Mill Pond. This brightly lighted parade is filled with floats, bands, horses, trolleys and more. I like to watch right in the heart of Market Square. This year's theme is "Vintage Christmas" and my neice Clara will be playing her clarinet for the Dover High Marching Band.

Friday December 14 Art Round Town Gallery Walk from 5-8pm. The first Friday of every month the local art galleries open with an evening wine & cheese social. This is one of my favorite monthly activities. Five galleries will be open

Saturday December 15 An 1836 Portsmouth Nutcracker with 3 shows at the Music Hall. Ballet New England presents this classic for the 19th time. A must see during any holiday season.

Friday December 21 and Saturday December 22 Ed Gerhard 25th Annual Christmas Concert at 7:30pm at the Unitarian Church. A wonderful evening of Christmas favorites for fans of guitar music. Ed is a local Grammy award-winning artist and his Christmas concerts are always a sold out favorite. This year in the season of giving  they are asking everyone to bring a non-perishable food item to benefit the Family Service Food Pantry and receive a $1 off coupon for any CD.

Monday December 31 First Night Portsmouth your First Night button will get you into entertainment all over the downtown area.

WOW - I am excited to get the party started!

Girl Scout Cookies were the major ingedient here. We had tons left over from the Spring. It is so funny to see the looks on peoples faces when they realize you have Thin Mints in November -- I was even offered $10 a box!

This year we are in process of building the "Cottage on Snowflake Blvd" a lovely cape with add on family room. Very much a blue a white cottage nestled in a pine tree woods with fire pond in front. Gotta love blue licorice for roof tiles.
