Finding Your Niche--being THE BEST at one thing is priceless.
I’m no Oprah Winfrey, but I have found something that I’m an expert in and finding my niche after a lifetime of seeking it can feel, well…pretty darned GOOD. I was never the expert, THE BEST in anything. I was the Jill-of-all-trades, Master-of-none. Seriously. My dad spent many years wondering if I was going to settle down and find a “real job”.
After starting my real estate business at Fishhawk Lake in a downturn of that business, it was like being Sisyphus and pushing that boulder up a very large hill.
But, with passion, persistence and a willingness to show vulnerability (because of lack of experience) it all played into eventual success as well as building the foundation for others to call and say, “you seem like the expert at Fishhawk Lake, and have sold a lot up here; we’d like to list with you”. Or: "we see that most of the listings at Fishhawk Lake are yours, could you show us properties?"
Appraisers call me often, looking for comparables of lake property at Fishhawk Lake because they've noticed that most of what’s listed and sold here is mine and they ask if could I give them some pointers for a loan they’re working on or a bridge project that they’re just starting on in our community as two recent examples. That feeling of someone valuing you opinion because you’ve proven yourself is the kind of stuff dreams are made of!
When people call you and ask for your professional opinion because you’ve proven yourself, it has an effect on you that money can’t buy.
Hard work, experience and a belief that you can do it, among other hard-earned qualities are some of the building blocks for creating the foundation for that expertise. The willingness to say, “I don’t know the answer to that question, but I’ll find out and get back to you,” and DOING IT in a timely manner. Doing the research when you don’t have the answers. Constantly saying to yourself, How can I be better at this? Being REALLY CREATIVE. Having fun. Not taking yourself too seriously. And certainly not letting your ego run away with itself!
Let me show you how much fun you can have owning lake property at Fishhawk Lake!
