Saturday's Charlotte Observer had a very interesting article by Allen Norwood which proves my recent point about the Charlotte market!

In his article, Price trends? Area stats among nation's best, Mr. Norwood sheds light on a recent press release by the National Association of REALTORS®, reflecting on our market having experienced one of the strongest single family price boosts in the nation!  Our third quarter 2007 average SFH was up 11% from third quarter 2006.  Unlike other markets that are somewhat depressed, Charlotte continues to show marked improvements, which solidifies the theory that the Charlotte real estate market is not to be compared to other markets--we are an independent, local market!

Visit http://www.charlotte.com/and do a keyword search on Allen Norwood.  His articles, including this one, will be available for your reading pleasure!  He reflects a more realistic view of the market than other commentator and seems to glean his information from a variety of sources.

Debe,

NC seems to be bucking the trend in some ares of the state, your area being one.

Unlike Charlotte, Asheville does not have the large central office type businesses, but because of the mountains, year round gentle climate, and tourist type attractions, Asheville has attracted buyers with money.

We are down 17% on closed sales from this same time last year, yet our median and average asking prices are still holding steady (Avg. = $448,000 Median = $299,900) or going up. We have a large percentage of homes over $1 mil.

I have written a blog, Survey: How many $1million homes on the Market in your MLS region? that I would appreciate your time to respond to. I am attempting to gather information from various areas to help our local newspaper write an article about, which is the subject of my blog. I am NOT requesting this because of points, so maybe you could take a look and see if you can contribute for the Charlotte area.

Thanks
