My much younger and hipper brother (I'm not much of a challenge there in the hipness department) turned me on to this YouTube phenom. According to my nephew in Westchester County, NY, the group is Italian, sang this in Spanish and ?? (translator wanted!), recorded it in Germany. and the subtitles are German.
I searched the phrase Vamos A La Playa (Let's Go to the Beach) in Urban Dictionary and it's a slangy nothing response. Irrelevant and irreverent, it expresses a complete lack of concern over anything of substance. So in the popular video - at least it was in the 80's - speaks of nuclear bombs and the two artists sing and pose in their suits and skinny ties, talking to their wrist radios - Let's Go To The Beach.
Ya gotta love these guys - Righeira!
Yet again - they were still reprising this thing 20 years and 30 pounds later:
Mortgage Meltdown? Vamos A La Playa!
Lyrics (Spanish?)
Vamos a la playa
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
Vamos a la playa
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
Vamos a la playa
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
Vamos a la playa, oh, oh
Vamos a la playa
La bomba estallò
Las radiaciones tostan
Y matizan de azul
Vamos a la playa
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
Vamos a la playa
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
Vamos a la playa
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
Vamos a la playa, oh, oh
Vamos a la playa
Todos con sombrero
El viento radioactivo
Despeina los cabellos
Vamos a la playa
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
Vamos a la playa
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
Vamos a la playa
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
Vamos a la playa, oh, oh
(repeat)
Vamos a la playa
Al fin el mar es limpio
No mas peces hediondos
Sino agua fluorescente
Vamos a la playa
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
Vamos a la playa
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
Vamos a la playa
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
Vamos a la playa, oh, oh
(repeat)
