This Time I’m the Buyer – The Sequel (Perspectives on Real Estate and More from a Home Staging Pro)
Just a few weeks ago, I wrote a blog titled This Time I’m the Buyer about my recent not so pleasant experience as a Buyer. I won’t rehash that horrible experience but I can say there is a happy ending.
Our dear friend and my broker, Gail Bevillof Green Apple Real Estate sent us a listing as soon as it hit the market. We fell in love with the property and made an offer. Unlike the agent from the other property we liked, the Seller’s agent on this place had all her ducks in a row and was a true pleasure to work with.
At this point, I wish I could tell you the deal was all sunshine and roses, but wouldn’t you know it; the Seller was a real stinker. After the deal was finally done, his agent actually said, “He’s the first client I’ve had that made me want to get out of this business.” Poor thing; as hard as it was on my Yetti and me, she must of pulled out all of her hair during the process.
Sometime between an executed contract and closing day, I read an article on negotiation quotations from AGBeat. It is a shame the Seller was not armed with this information. The whole process felt so angry and no matter what we offered, it wasn’t enough yet he would not tell us exactly what he wanted. It seemed as if everyone in the deal wanted a win-win except the Seller. He not only wanted to be king of the hill, he wanted to use the rest of us as his stair steps to get there.
Fortunately for the Yetti and me, both agents on the deal exhibited incredible grace under pressure, excellent negotiation skills and supreme finesse to make this deal happen. We have the beautiful weekend place we hoped for and a space that makes us look forward to retirement.
Wishing you a quick sale!
