Decorating the Christmas tree

This past weekend I finished decorating the house for Christmas.  Our decorating routine is a big ordeal so I thought I'd write about how it goes.

The husband brings the tree upstairs and begins to assemble it.  This year I walked in to find him looking very disgruntled.  He said that the tree was not level and it was making him angry.  I looked at the tree and thought it looked fine and told him so.  A few minutes later I walked back into the living room and see a level sitting on the couch.  Yes, he used a level to make sure the tree was level.  Which by the way, was completely level.

My job is to put the lights on the tree.  I don't mind this job so much because I am very particular about how I like the tree to look.  I put A LOT and I mean a lot of lights on the tree.  This year I put red and white lights on.  They get wrapped around the branches to make sure that the depth of the tree is shown and the center lights up.  Every year we seem to run out of lights, this year being no different.  I got a little more than halfway up and had to stop and make a run to Target.  The husband again reminds me that I use too many lights and he warned me to not use so many or we would run out again.

After finishing the lights I start to put on the red and gold ornaments.  The husband tells me to quit putting so many on or we wouldn't have room for our "special" ornaments.  I told him it would be fine and it was.  Finally it was time to put on the "special" ornaments.  The husband usually helps at this point if he is finished being irritated with the whole process.  I then put the finishing touches on the tree including some bows and red berries.  The husband asks me again why I like those berries so much (he thinks they don't belong because berries don't grow on a tree, as if lights and ornaments do?).  And finally we are done and the tree looks beautiful!  I now realize there's only about a month left before a similar ordeal of taking the tree down will happen.  I better enjoy my peace.
