Most don’t realize it until the time comes. Selling your home is an incredibly emotional experience.

Suddenly strangers are poking around the closets that your children would hide in…

They’re deciding which wall to knock down…

They’re criticizing your beloved kitchen. How dare they?!

Worst of all, they’re hagglers, grinding your price down to the absolute limit.

But selling your home is a time of business. Being too attached will leave you feeling empty. It can even lead you to make bad decisions. So how can you keep a level head during this tough time? Here are some ideas…

1) Remove the emotion from your house when selling your home:

Immediately pack away family photographs, the children’s drawings on the fridge, your books and DVDs. Now, isn’t that better?

At last you’re seeing your house as a potential buyer will. Also, they won’t be distracted by your memories, tastes and interests.

Consider getting a professional to help as well. Home stagers offer invaluable expertise on presenting your home for the buyer. It’s a great way to remove any attachment to the property. Even better, it’s a great weapon for selling your home. On average, staged homes sell twice as fast. Your REALTOR® might even include this as part of the service.

2) Think about your next home:

A lot of emotion is in every home you sell. You have to remember this when you take a listing. It is wise to remove family photos etc when listing a home...great ideas. Stage the home for sale.
