Well, it's that time again...property reassessment. My taxes, like yours, are probably going up. In fact, I know mine are going up. I can't say I disagree with my new assessment but I know there are plenty of you out there that may be over-assessed. It is not that uncommon an occurence as the valuations performed are done on a mass basis with many calculations being based on the overall market place. There is help though. Hiring a "well seasoned", state certified appraiser is your first course of action. I say "well seasoned" as we have "been around the block" a few times. For a reasonable fee, a good appraiser can tell you if your money would be well spent to appeal your new assessment. Typically, this fee can be applied if a full appraisal is warranted. In many cases, for an additional fee, the appraiser can accompany you to an appeal hearing to present his or her findings. In many cases, the money saved the first year will cover your costs and is a reward you will reap until the next valuation period.
