"When the government is involved in business, it’s hard for private companies to compete.  The Chinese government is smothering the private sector.   The usurping of private enterprise has become so evident that the Chinese have given it a nickname: 'guojin mintui.' That roughly translates as 'while the state advances, the privates retreat.'  If the government doesn’t interfere, these entrepreneurs would be productive.

There are a variety of reasons the Chinese government is seeking an enlarged role in the economy — including fears that wealthy entrepreneurs could begin to challenge the Communist Party. There is also an ingrained belief among leaders that the state is better at driving growth and redistributing wealth. And so state companies have been given the green light to expand their interests and move into anything that promises high returns — whether real estate, finance, technology or other fields."

Chen Zhiwu, Yale University Finance Professor

Ha!  Are there some lessons here for us?

Notice some key words and phrases - we hear them all the time!  Smothering the private sector...  Gubment interference is negative to entrepreneurial productivity...  The gubment is better at driving growth and redistributing wealth...  The state...

So, then, why, WHY, is our gubment trying to do what the Chinese gubment is doing?

Why is our gubment so bent, or hellbent, on the same kind of control the Chinese gubment (read that Communist Party) is hellbent on?

Why does our gubment think such control is better and will work?

BECAUSE THOSE IN CHARGE OF OUR GUBMENT, CURRENTLY, HAVE NO PRIVATE SECTOR EXPERIENCE!  THEY HAVE NO THOUGHTS FOR ANYTHING BUT FOR THE STATE!  IT IS ALWAYS, ALWAYS, THE MOTHER STATE!  WHY?  BECAUSE THAT IS THE SOURCE OF THEIR POWER AND THE SOURCE OF THEIR CONTROL!

Do you think that if the Chinese people, their own entrepreneurs, could vote, they would vote for the Statists?

BUT ALAS, THEY HAVE NO VOTE!

Think carefully.  And so, when you vote, vote smart.  Vote smart.  Vote smart.

Most of "them" were not elected James, but appointed by those so "elected."  And they were appointed (chosen) because of their templates!

Jay.... Jay Jay Jay.... There is something in the water, you vote for someone based on what they say they will do, they get elected, then they drink the water and whammo.... they are transformed. I think we should do tests on the water. Perhaps they need to shock the well?

You know, my husband grew up in a communist country. Life was very, very different for him. He used to talk about it often, not so much anymore. It was a way of life that I couldn't really understand. There was a level of fear that is so totally foreign to me.

While I hear your criticisms, I also detect a bias. The problem is the government or the mentality of those in government. I see that no one "side" as better than another, just a different spin. The system itself is corrupted.

Jay - Yes, the only solution is for the electorate to "vote smart." However, based on what I observe, I have yet to see voters willing to spend the time necessary to properly educate themselves.

Jay -- thank you for once again bringing forward a great point regarding how things work economically.  It is amazing that these folks who tell us how bright they are, are still trying to use a system that has failed everytime and everywhere it has been tried.

Jay,

Correct. Vote smart. Vote for free markets, low regulation, low taxes. :)

Andrea - I am not so sure they are transformed at all.  They are just being who they always were.  Name me one of the grand promises the Grand Imam made that he has satisfied.

Jim - you are right, I am biased!  I am biased toward individual freedom, liberty and voluntary exchange!  The only side that produces productive growth is the free market side.  Find anything else in the world that raises so many to be able to do so much.

John - I see the Grand Imam writing off whole sectors.  What has he said?  He has written off the common working man (his words) and the Catholics, and with them all religious-thinking people (his actions).  Why would he do that?  Because he thinks that appealing to his "base," those dependent hoards, will outnumber those he is writing off!

Steve H. - I will only if that presents itself.  If it does not, I will not vote for it!

Steven - bright and smart are two different things.  We will overcome those "bright" people who wish to bring things down to better control those things.  Calvin Coolidge said something very interesting in 1827 (when was he president?).  I answered you last so this would be prominent:

"Nothing in the world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated failures. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent."

I am with you on this issue 100%. The amount of regulations we are living with in this country, is hurting growth of any kind.

Maybe the current administration would do a better job, leading in Europe. In a Socialistic society, they would be right at home.

Jay - Those in government have always been the rich and wealthy looking out for the rich and wealthy. Most have made their wealth on the backs and sweat of others. Today those in government are blatant in their efforts to wipe out the mom & pop shops. Why? In one word - Greed!

Joe - the Founding Fathers revolted over much less than we take for granted.  And it is still being piled on.

Eric - I have no problems with anyone working and making themselves a better life.  And if they invent a better mouse trap even better.  My biggest problems are with those who get their wealth from family position, and use that to get into gubment to stick it to the rest.  A few families come to mind!  And those families are full of reprobates.

Jay -- "Silent Cal" was born in 1872 -- served as president in the late 1920's - so think the quote is from early  1900s.
