Anyone who's anyone knows Jeff Turner from Real estate Shows.   Jeff is a huge supporter of Active Rain and does wonderful tutorials for us on new technology to help us all improve our blogging skills.   But  do you know his wife Rocky?

I'll followed Rocky's Journey to Africa and fell in love with her and her work.  The official site is Mother's Fighting for Others.   I was reading this morning about a cute easy game which actually raises rice donations ... Let me share with you all so everyone can play.

Directly from MFFO's Site

According to TechCrunch.com, 217 millionpeople play online games. 217 MILLION people... that's like nine times the population of Texas.

Now imagine what could be accomplished if those 217 million people took those finely-tuned gaming skills over to FreeRice.com.

FreeRice.comoffers visitors a fun and surprisingly addictive word challenge that pays out in the best of online booty: Rice. For each word that you get right, Free Rice donates 10 grains of rice through the United Nations to help end world hunger.

Having Fun means:

  • playing online games
  • making a difference
  • finally learning the real definition of yahoo
  • all of the above

To start playing, head on over to FreeRice.com or to learn more about world hunger, be sure to check out their sister site at Poverty.com.

****************************************************************************************

So its easy really,  click  Freerice.com - Test your vocabulary and knowledge of word definition and in turn your helping feed hunger.   How easy is that.   So please everyone spend a minute or two and do your good deed for the day... Just think of all those old English teachers we had in school and make them proud.  (even if you didn't like them)

::::: Edit - I'd love you to come back and tell me how much you donated in the comment section, I am only at 600... ughhh::::

Good site, I had no idea. It's a great site to pass on to my clients, especially to those with children as way to educate them about poverty.

What a great idea and thanks so much for spreading the word about Rocky's work.  Everything she is trying to accomplish is just incredibly awesome!  Have you hear of Tom's Shoes?  For every pair you buy they donate a pair and take thousands to Africa and other areas of the world.  To me this is what the holidays are all about!

Hi Dez,

This is an excellent opportunity to help out somehow and is fun at the same time.....the words were very challenging and I'll revisit this site often and pass it along to friends.

I also found the poverty.com site through your link and saw that Canada and the USA are way behind other countries when it comes to helping feed the poorest of the world.

Dez...This time you've come up with not one but two important things for me in this post.

  1. Free Rice - I will play and pass it on and let you know the results (privately if they're real bad)
  2. Rocky's Trip - This is something I'll follow up on and read more about it.

A number of years ago, just over 20, I was fortunate to live in Somalia for a year.  Your post has much meaning for me.

Thank you for bringing this to our attention.

Dez...Great!!!  Now I have another addiction.

I sent 480 grains of rice and then got this message:

Sorry, we are unable to process rice donations so fast.

Please click BACK on your browser and try again.

What's not to love...it's fun, very worthwhile, and it makes you feel INTELLIGENT too.  Hey, that's why I'm not telling you this in private.

I promise to go back again, and again, and again.

Kathleen

P.S.  Just realized...maybe I'm just a good guesser.  Now, if I only knew the meaning of the graphic below...............

Dez...Saturday evening I had my husband, two sisters, and my brother-in-law donating rice.  We donated over 1,000 grains and found out that at some point (mayber it was at 1,000) we were donating 20 for each correct answer.

Best part is we were having fun and hopefully they'll do it again.

Kathleen

P.S.  Don't bother commenting on my comment.  Relax...sell a house.
