A New Course For San Rafael’s Peacock Gap Golf Club

Good news for golfers in San Rafael.  The Peacock Gap Golf and Country Club has reopened for business.  Closed since April, the semi-private 18-hole course has undergone substantial renovation including new greens and tee areas, a fancy new irrigation system, and redesigned bunkers.

A new golf course isn’t the only thing to come from this overhaul.  Phase 2 of the project is scheduled to be finished in 2009 and will include a renovated clubhouse, Olympic size pool, and a new spa/fitness area.

All of these fancy, state-of-the-art changes do come at a price.  There is a new, one-time membership fee of $30,000, which is a steep increase over the $1,000 annual fee that members paid before the renovations.  This fee is a source of contention among some of the old-timers. Membership is attractive to families because it guarantees access to all the club/spa facilities as well as the golf course, but many established members who belong primarily for the golfing aren’t happy with what they consider to be an unreasonable membership cost.

You don’t, however, need to be a member to play at the Peacock Gap Golf Club.  Homeowners in San Rafael and the surrounding areas can play a round at reasonable rates, starting at $50 -- depending on the day of the week and time.  So grab your clubs and check out the new course.
