Wordless Wednesday - Haunted Orchard?

I'm trying to see the beauty in the winter gloom, but I'm getting more of a "haunted" vibe from this photo of a winter orhard here in the Hood River Valley. Maybe it's the way the branches seem to be sinister, reaching for something, or maybe it's the very mysterious seeming mist. You be the judge...

I think it has a kind of stark beauty.  Do you know what the trees are?  I'm guessing appless.

Gretchen and Mel, it would be really neat to see this same shot in a couple of months!

Hi Mel and Gretchen, You are right it, does have that haunted type of appearance. But when the leaves come out, that will all be forgotten as the leaves will fill in and all the twisted and excess branches will be hidden away. Great photo!

Hmmm, can't say I would want to walk through there on a dark and windy night.

Do they top the trees on purpose or is it storm damage?
