Addison Logo  If you are unfamiliar with the Town of Addison, here's a quick introduction.

Addison sits at the northern (and slightly western) edge of Dallas, TX in Dallas County in an area once called Peters Colony. Settlement began in 1846 when Preston Witt built a house on White Rock Creek. But the area was not known as Addison until 1902. It is named after Addison Robertson, the community's second postmaster (1908-1916).  OK, enough with the history.

Today, Addison is known for its restaurants, shopping and events.  While the business and daytime population exceeds 100,000 a day, there are only about 15,000 residents in its 4.3 square miles. And as it says on its two websites (http://www.addisontexas.net/ and http://www.ci.addison.tx.us/):  "World-class shopping, excellent restaurants, friendly people and beautiful spaces make Addison a fun place to live, work, play and visit.... Addison perfectly blends the diversity of a big city with the ambiance of a small town".

With over 165 restaurants, 22 hotels, full calendar of events, museums, airport, parks, clubs and theaters, if you can't find something to do here, well, you're just not trying.

There is a wide range of housing and real estate available in Addison: apartments, condos, townhouses, duplexes, zero lot line homes, single family detached homes and lofts.  Examples of what's currently on the market: a 1 BR condo near the Midway Meadows subdivision for under $87,000; a couple of 2 BR condos in the same complex for under $120,00 and under $135,000 respectively; a 1 BR condo near Addison Circle for $235,000, a 2 BR for $279,000 and a 3 BR for $550,000; a 3 story 3 BR townhouse for under $340,000; and 3 properties in the Oaks North area of Addison between the $1,000,000 and $2,000,000 range.  Not to mention all the new construction north of Addison Circle.  In all, there are 75 properties listed as active in Addison today.

The services offered by the town, the employees of the town, and the residents of Addison make this a unique place to live.  And oh, did I mention the Addison Athletic Club?  Free (ok, there is a one-time $10 fee to laminate your card) to anyone who lives here.  I wouldn't live anywhere else!

Lorrie ~ It seems like there is quite a bit to Addison, Texas.  It doesn't come across as a "small town" with all those offerings.

Kathy:  There is a lot to this urban town!  Since we're so close to Dallas, we have a big city feel, but we're small enough to personally know the town council members and the mayor.  With a small population, our taxes are low - funded in large part by the businesses, restaurants and bars.  All-in-all, a GREAT place to live, work and play!

Ah, Addison! Not a city, but a "town." The Town of Addison. The best place to live and work in North Texas. There's something to be said about a place that doesn't take itself too seriously. Note the exclamation point in the town's name. Here you'll find the ruminations, rants and raves of one of the town's realtors and residents.
