Today we got an email from our broker that included the quote from Ralph Waldo Emerson which says, "That which we persist in doing becomes easier for us to do. Not that the nature of the thing has changed, but that our power to do is increased."
I think that is the nature of Real Estate and in many ways of life. The more that we work on our presentation skills, scripts etc., the easier and more confident we become doing them. The same with meeting new prospects, the more that we stretch ourselves and leave our comfort zones, the better we will be at finding new business. In sales meeting the other day, an agent in our office made the comment that we work at Real Estate like it is a job.
As bad as I hate to admit it, he is right. We need to set in our minds that there are certain activities that we have to do everyday to be successful. We have to prospect no matter how difficult or distasteful we may think that it is. We need to work our spheres of influence, contact our sellers and buyers. We need to put more into the time that we spend working Real Estate. By that I mean that we need to be as efficient as possible, eliminating activities that are time wasting by nature. We need to try to do the most productive thing possible at any given time.
We need to prioritize our time to the best of our abilities, it isn't always easy. Everyone has the client that wants us to drop everything and rush to show them a house, and depending on your circumstances, that may be the most productive thing that you can do. My point of this blog is not time management, but rather, sometimes it is no pain no gain. I know that with myself, I really need to push myself to do that which I hate to do even when it is good for me.
As much as I hate to admit it, we do need to work Real Estate like it is a job. We also need to do those tasks that will make us successful, even if we don't like them!
