Elkhart, Indiana Short Sales, Are we Still Talking About Short Sales?

In 2008 we started hearing more and more about Short Sales.  Back then people were getting laid off from their jobs, Companies were scaling down and some closed alltogether.  But that was then, right?  Are we still talking about Short Sales?

You betcha!  In 2008 many familes in Elkhart County were in pretty bad shape.  With mortgages due that were out of line with the current value and no jobs, alot of folks lost not only their homes, but also their pride.  Ouch! It really hurt. Almost everyone knew someone in financial trouble.

Elkhart County has done a remarkable job of rebounding.  We are not out of the woods yet, not by a long shot, but we are better than we were in 2008.

However, those families that held on tight are now starting to falter.  Here are a couple of things you need to know if you are behind in your mortgage, or about to become past due.

  1. The bank really wants to you stay in your home.  Even if you are past due.
  2. Real Estate Agents are now more familiar with Short Sales and know how to help you, but still you need to do your due dilligence and find the Agent that knows the short sale process backward and forward.
  3. Banks are more willing to work with you.  Does not mean they accept all offers or the process is any shorter...They do NOT want to own your home!
  4. The bank will, in most cases, pay all costs involved in selling the property.  You should be able to sell your home with no out of pocket expenses.  Key word is SHOULD!  Not guaranteed...
  5. So be proactive.  Get on the internet and search out short sales.  It is the only way you will learn your rights as a home owner, or who is best suited to help YOU!

Evelyn, this is a very good post - well written - about Short Sales and the right way to deal with them. Thanks for sharing.

The People You Know, Like and Trust!

Thank you David! I have so much compassion for people who are between a rock and a hard place and no one tells them they have rights!  Just today I heard about a couple here locally, who both lost their jobs and their bank is making them pay $50 a month to stay in their home.  These folks are unemployment and barely eating.
