Not so long ago, many people thought of Facebook as a college version of MySpace. As I've explored the site over the last couple of weeks, two statistics keep coming to mind:

  • Over 55 million users
  • Fastest growing demographic in the 25+ age range

It's apparent to me that Facebook is the leading social media site to reach the Gen X crowd. Now with Business Solutions, Facebook offers tools for businesses to connect with their customers, place targeted advertising, take polls, and analyze site traffic.

I'll be writing more about Business Solutions next week. For the weekend, here's what others are saying about using Facebook for business:

There are a lot of great Facebook posts here from retaining talent, to a WSJ article on tangible results, to a webinar on The Power of Facebook.

If you're lucky enough to be in the Seattle area next week, you can attend the 2007 Web Community Forum on December 5 and 6. The conference will discuss ways that businesses, political campaigns, and marketers can use Facebook.

Hi John- Great find on those links.  I knew of the Web Community Forum, but not the others.  I'm looking forward to checking em out.

When Facebook announced their platform at the F8 conference, it opened a whole new world.  While it's not the end all, be all, it's a super important tool to know.

Hi John - thanks for this info.  From this post, I learned there's more to Facebook than I realized.  It just seemed to me to be a place where you write on funwalls, have food fights, etc.  I'll look at it in more detail.  I've had an account there for a bit now, but never did much with it.  I will now though!  Thanks for this info.

John - This is more of a tool for the mid to older GenY crowd, as GenX's (technically) are in their mid-30's now... But, no, you cannot ignore the potential with this!
