I just finished reading an article in one of our local papers about a woman in my town and I had to share it here. Mrs. Leonard has been a professional who has really fallen on some bad times. It seems that about 10 years ago when she was 59 years old she decided to do some investing. She invested in Enron & WorldComm and we know the rest of the story on those 2 companies and their bankruptcies. She ran out of money and even the attorney she hired failed her. She said, "Once you hit poverty, there ain't ever a way out."
She is actually living in a home that is virtually unlivable. Bill Paulsen, a Rotarian, came to install a smoke detector and carbon dioxide detector. This is when he discovered how she was living. There is no insulation and she has gone through 5 furnaces. She is a graphic designer and she has a valuable art collection that was lost in a flood in her basement. The plumber did not finish his work and that goes back to last December.
A Mr. Greg Hickey went to the house and was as horrified as the other person to see how she was living. The ceiling was completely gone. Mr. Hickey is a local tradesman from Newton and belongs to the Irish Village Soccer Club. Mr. Hickey has started to do some work to begin repairing Mrs. Leonard's home.

I am not surprised that the Rotary Club of Needham and The Irish Village Soccer Club have vowed to restore the home of Mrs. Leonard. How wonderful is this and a very happy ending to a sad story.
PAT - That is quite a story about a sad situation. I was pleased to see the two groups stepping up to help. I belong to the New London Connecticut Rotary Club and have been involved in quietly helping many people in this area that needed help. It is the least that all of us can do. Thank you for sharing this with us.
