OMG! Is that our haunted house in this 1918 Mulberry Street Quitman AR postcard??

The Arkansas Democrat Gazette has this popular feature called Arkansas postcard past by Steven Hanley and they print an old postcard each day.  This is Feb 24, 2012 and the card of the day is shown below.

It just so happens that we have a house listed on Mulberry that is inhabited by spirits as local legend goes.  We have permission from the seller to advertise it this way also.  So I peered at this dirt street and read underneath the picture.  It reads, "Quitman, 1914.  There was no traffic on the Cleburne County rural hamlet's tree-lined Mulberry Street when this photo was taken 98 years ago..."

I looked again and then dragged out the side picture of our listed house and I do believe it may be the one in the background of this picture.  See what you think.  We know the house is old and we've asked for a local expert to help us determine if the house is indeed the one we have listed now.

To my eye, they are in the same orientation. The 1914 house is on a road or street to the right and the modern house is also on a street and at the right. The window orientation is fairly common and the 1914 house appears to have different size lower windows. There certainly could have been additions to make them the same.

I want them to be the same also.

The Google Man has a front view of the house. This look takes a lot of the mystique away.

I've always thought it was the house on the left of the picture....duh.

Don, do something with that one, please.

Don, you and that Google man are such good friends.  He still doesn't like me....or Anita....  LOL

Anita, the one on the left, if a two story which it appears to be, would belong to the next door neighbor who is psychic and knows all about the inhabitants of the house we have listed.  She is very interesting. Stop by and see her sometime.

Barbara, I just MAY do that sometime:  stop by the house next door to the haunted house.

As for Mr. Google Man:  who needs him when we have Don!

Anita, you are hereby appointed to drive by this house and carry the picture postcard with you and see if can be the same.  And do note the two-story when you stand in place in the street looking like a surveyor.

O.K.  I accept the appointment.   I have a Minnesota friend coming to stay awhile, (in a couple of weeks).....We'll go by there, try and speak with the psychic and compare the house to the postcard.   That will give us something to do.

Barbara and Anita, I don't think ya'll understand the structure of the haunted house. That's a double garage next to the house and it's connected.

Don, the double garage was an add-on and not very many years old....and they took part of a wrap porch when they put it on.

Wouldn't that be something!  What's the story about the spirits haunting the house?

Georgina,

Here's a link to the story of Dog Boy, the Quitman ghost. Whether or not the spirit of Dog Boy still lives in the house is, of course, debatable, but the disturbing history of his life in Quitman seems to be true.

Luke, thanks for putting up the link to the story.  We do need a buyer for the house!

Ok!  It's in.  The experts said that indeed the old post card photo is of our house.  We took a picture of the street as it is today.  The house in the foreground on the right has been taken  down but our haunted house remains.

Is this house now for sale & a new address? I was looking at pictures of the inside & there are a lot of orbs inside of it. Looks like it had started to get remodeled. The orbs don’t bother me. I was just curious about the history of this house & what the story is.

Brenda, it is no longer for sale.  It was bought and the present owners report no problems with spirits.  But it was an interesting listing which became a foreclosure and I did not have the listing any longer.
