What is a good place to eat on a Friday night in the Princeton area?  Princeton real estate is not just about good homes to live in, it is also about good places to eat. Those who live in the Princeton area quickly learn that Friday is the big night out and you would have to wait in many restaurants for 30-40 minutes before you are seated. But there are a few exceptions.

Today I was going to skip one day of writing on my blog thinking that I can take a break once in a while. What made me change my mind is hot food on a Friday night.
Princeton Restaurant
My kids make fun of me and say that if I became this country’s President I would outlaw cold food in restaurants.

There are several places we know we can get in on Friday night without a wait and have a good meal. Tonight we went to Joe’s Crab Shack on US Route 1. We got in, had good service and hot food. Of course it’s not gourmet $400 New York extravaganza, but as I said my requirements are very simple.

I was so satisfied with our dinner that I dismissed my earlier decision not to write today, to say that you can still get a good, inexpensive and hot food in Princeton even on a Friday night.

Faina,
Some times the most simple and inexpensive fits our needs and wants the best.  I love gourmet food and service but sometimes just good food and service  at a fair price fits the bill just fine.

I just love Princeton.  My Aunt has lived close to downtown for over 30 years close to the Johnson estate.  It must be fun to work in that market. It sounds like you enjoyed dinner.

Irena - there were people eating crab from these huge buckets. I am not very good with all that pulling apart and getting messy. My husband had fish and chips which was very good, I also had a huge seafood platter. Friday night around here are a challenge - we have so many restaurants and they are all packet.

Cynthia - like you I like to occasionally have a special gourmet meal in an upscale place. Being so close to NY and Philadelphia, there is an unlimited selection of such places. Most of the time I just want something good, hot and inexpensive.

Tracy - Princeton is a great place to live, and there are all kinds of housing prices in the surrounding towns, Princeton being on the more expensive side. As far as working in this market, it's extremely competitive with many agents who have been here for a long time -makes  for a tough challenge.Does your aunt still live here?

I think we've eaten there. (No, may be I'm confusing Joe's with the Lobster Shanty on Route 33.) My aunt lived in Princeton for many years. There's a coffee shop (probably many) on the Main Street there. Name escapes me.

One of my New York City clients joked that living in New Jersey was a trade off. Open spaces but a 'culinary wasteland.' I thought that was harsh.

Andrew - there is Red Lobster less then 0.5 miles away. That is one of the perpetually packed one on Fridays and Saturdays night. Last night at 8:30p.m. the wait was 40 minutes.

In New Jersey you really need to know where to go. There is a good French restaurant in Princeton, there are several good ones in Lambertville, which is 30-40 minutes away. There is a new one "New York style"( expensive, packet and tiny portions) one that just opened in Rocky Hill.

I ate in many top restaurants around the world. Even in NY and Paris, you can't just bet on getting a great meal. The only place I found different is south of France, Provence. There you can stop at any pizza place and have a fabulous meal. In fact I have a favorite pizza place in Aix-en-Provence. Do you need directions?  i got carried away and forgot this is a real estate, not a restaurant review forum:)

Faina, good idea to spotlight all of the aspects of your community, not just housing.  We sell lifestyle after all.  I have eaten at several different Joe's Crab Shacks, and never left unsatisfied.  Good choice!

Andrew - sure:)

Paul - simple, hot and inexpensive - when it comes to food, it would do it for me most of the time.
