Fellow Lancastrians -- did you hear the big news?  Our first Winter Storm Watch of the season is upon us!

You all know what that means, don't you? ....

It's time to make a run for your Milk and Bread!

I don't know why it is, but everyone around here panics at the thought of snow coming, and makes a mad dash to stock up on groceries -- namely, Milk and Bread.  The shelves get emptied of Milk and Bread.  Eggs, too!  We always joke about it, storm after storm, yet we still do it.  We must make some seriously good French Toast around here during snow storms!

So, those of you who are considering relocating to Lancaster County, PA must keep this in mind if you want to blend in when you get here -- when you hear that "snow is on the way" you MUST jump in your car, drive like mad to the nearest supermarket or Turkey Hill, and stock up on your Milk and Bread.  2%, 1%, Skim Milk, Soy, Lactaid... I don't think it matters what kind you get, as long as you get enough of it so that there is none left for the next guy!

I am joking, of course! (not really) But I do want to remind everyone to drive carefully.  Those of you who might be arriving in Lancaster for the weekend to look at homes, please keep the storm in mind.  Snow is expected to begin on Saturday evening (1-4") and by Sunday we are expecting sleet and freezing rain (possibly up to an inch).  So, drive carefully!

Luckily, this isn't happening until later in the day on Saturday, so it won't affect my son taking his SAT's on Saturday morning!  Although I'm sure he'd wish for a 'snow day' from having to take them! (please wish him luck!)

Jeannie,

It's really about time. The snow comes later and later every year and I, for one, love to see some snow before Christmas. Of course, I will need to run out between showings today to get some milk, bread and eggs before they run out. Stay safe yourself and blog like crazy while you eat your french toast.

JEANNIE:  The French Toast line was hysterical.  It happens on Long Island too.  If they ever say snow storm, people stock up like they're headed into the bomb shelter in their basement.  I can't recall ever being snowed in for more than 2 days or so, which makes it even funnier that everyone does the same thing.

ADAM, you're right!  The thought of snow must make everyone start feeling hungry!  I have to admit, on my way home from the office on Friday evening I stopped by the supermarket because we needed milk, and I knew my husband would need it for his coffee for Saturday morning (I am trying to prove that this wasn't a "snow" panic stop!).  Well, gee - while I was there I figured we could use some bread too.  And bagels.  And of course I had to pick up two packages of cookies.  And, oh, look! The potato chips were "buy 1-get 1 free" so I had to pick up two bags.  hmmm... should get something for dinner, too, for the next few days.  So, my "gee we need milk" quick-stop turned into a $127 12-bag shopping extravaganza.  Oh, and the snow never even made it!

JEANNIEE:  You are hysterical!  I know that the cost of milk is rising, but that has to be the most expensive gallon of milk in history.  Thanks for the laughs.  Sorry that you got trapped with no snow and food for an army.

Adam - That was an expensive gallon of milk, but I have to admit that my son was thrilled that I actually had something in the fridge to make for dinner tonight! :-)  Being 18, he is either eating me out of house and home, or he's never home for a meal!  I can never tell which it will be.  Oh yea, I bought Campbell's Soups, too - New England Clam Chowder -- those are always great to have during a storm (which never really materialized here, by the way).
