I was inspired by an article I read in the paper to think about our move to Myrtle Beach from New York in 2004 and the difference it has made on the quality of our life here.  Every time I talk to friends or family in New York, the first question is 'how's the weather up there?"  it seems trivial but this question is the primary reason for our move. The usual responses are:  it's gray, it's not raining, the snow is pretty but we are staying in today...

The area we came from has very few days of sunshine.  As I look out my window this morning I appreciate the fact that Myrtle Beach has 260+ days of sunshine on average.  What a difference the sun makes in your life, even though the temperature may only be 40 degrees.  Getting out is so much easier when it is sunny.  (There must be some psychological basis for this.) My husband is playing his weekly golf match - something he could not do in our old home town.

Some of the other benefits that we did not anticipate in the relocation are amazing.  Property taxes for our home in NY were $8700 for a home similar in size to our home here.  The taxes on the Myrtle Beach home are $1350. The sales tax in NY was 9.5% when we left (and this is in a city of only 34,000 residents!)  The sales tax here is 7%.

Finally, I am on my way to walk on the beach, something that definitely is not possible in in our former home town.  If you would like to change your life for the better, consider moving to Myrtle Beach - you won't be disappointed!
