You probably have already joined Facebook, and created a profile there.  Did you know you can also create a (FREE) Facebook Page for your business?

Go to http://www.facebook.com/business/ -- Click on Facebook Pages

Click Create a Facebook Page

Start creating the Page.  Here's a little curiosity.  The logical category for an agent or broker would be "Local Business" ->"Real Estate", right?

But if you enter your page in the Real Estate category, the detailed information page will not give you a box for "General Information".  Huh?  Only "Public Transit".  While I love the environmentally conscious idea of throngs of people visiting my office via the light rail, I would also like to give a little general information about my company.  What the heck.  I just added the general information under Public Transit.

If you decide to call your company a "Brand, or Product",

...  you get these fields for general information,  but no field for location.

Oh well.  Moving right along.  Just go ahead and add/edit information.  You can also add photos, videos, and events.

This one took me a while to figure out.  Want to access your page again?  Go to your Profile and look at the items in the left column.  Click on Page Manager.

Need to delete a page?  Click on Page Manager, go to the Pages tab.  Click Edit Page

Then click Delete Page here

To create another, different page, click Page Manager, then look down at the bottom navigation, and click Businesses

It has taken me the last couple hours to sort through what should be simple navigation.  Maybe this will save some time for someone else!

If you want to thank me, you can go to my new company page on Facebook and become a fan:

Hi Cheryl,

Thank you for the help.  I need to add to what I have done previously.  I really needed this help about two weeks ago!

I put my listing under professional service so that I could give a general description. I'm not exactly sure what they mean by the "real estate"  category.

Thanks for putting this together in such detail, Cheryl! I'm going to tackle the Facebook business page this week. I'll let you know if I figure out any tips and tricks. :)

12/02/2007 03:37 AM by John Novak - Las Vegas and Henderson NV Real Estate (Keller Williams Realty The Marketplace)

Ginger -- I think you need to be a member to create a business page.  However when you create the business page, there is no reference on the page to who created it or the identity of the administrators.

I 'spose you could join under an alias and/or put mimimal info/business info only on the profile page .... and not add any friends or applications .... just for the purpose of creating a biz page .... but you'd miss out on the friendship and interaction part.... ??

Cheryl... What a great source for information you are.  I really appreciate all that you are teaching us.

Thanks,

This is an excellent post!  Thank you for taking the time to take all those screen shots.  Really help illustrates the set up process.

Great instructions.  I wish I had found this before I set up my page.  It took me a while to figure it out,  I just wish they had an option to send out invitations to your friends to become a "fan of the page".  If you start a group you can send invites, but not the business page.  Good Job.

12/21/2007 08:45 AM by Toronto Real Estate | Steven Campbell | Sales Representative (Homelife Victory Realty Inc., Brokerage*)

Thanks Cheryl.  I signed up for Facebook and created a business page today.  Thanks for your tutorial.  There is so much to learn about web-based marketing, and tutorials like yours make everything so much easier.

01/02/2008 12:13 PM by Sallie Williams, MBA, Baton Rouge REALTOR (Keller Williams Realty RED STICK PARTNERS)

Nice tutorial. Generation Y is a totally different market segment in that they totally ignore most any medium that's not instant, or social.

Thank you Cheryl. I really appreciate the work you did here for all of us learners.  I will put that on my list for tomorrow. Best to you in 2008.

I am just preparing to take the EPRO class now and I know one of the suggestions that they give is to do a profile in face book and my space.  I just forgot until now.  Thanks for the reminder.

Well, I am your 2nd fan...hopefully the others will add their names too:)  I went to your business site and am wondering how this would work for someone like me who works for RE/MAX?  Does it make sense to have one?

Thanks so much for this post! I have a personal page, but am going to add a business page too. I also just chose "real estate" even though it lacks areas to type in basic information. I'm thinking there must be some place people can search under the category, so I would rather be classified as real estate...just in case.

02/11/2008 01:10 PM by Olathe Real Estate Agent - Brad Papa (RE/MAX Stateline)

Thanks for sharing this. I didn't know about the business pages.

Hey Cheryl,

Thanks for all of the time that you put into this post.  I was not aware that you could do this.  Appreciate it!

Good work Cheryl!  What are all the benefits of having a business page instead of a regular page? Can u have both?   Would it be better to just have business stuff on your regular page since that is the one people will visit the most like for social purposes and see ur business stuff.  They may not be likely to see the business stuff as much if it is seperate?  Just some questions u can hopefully help me out with.

04/01/2008 10:58 PM by David Miller Spring Hill Middle TN Real Estate (Crye-Leike, Realtors)

David -- Yes, you can have both ... me, I just put the page up there and let it be.

Brian Brady is putting totgether some good stuff on using Facebook for the Bloodhound UNChained conference.

I picked up another old time friend as a buyer today. He had been noticing the closing pics Ive been putting up on it and taggin our friends that also have facebook. They love having closing pics as part of their profile pictures!!

04/02/2008 11:47 PM by David Miller Spring Hill Middle TN Real Estate (Crye-Leike, Realtors)

Great blog! I just did one myself, check it out and let me know your feedback! http://tinyurl.com/3jryvf

(Feel free to become a fan!)

I am experimenting with it, I want to see how viral a small business's page can be comparing to big companies like Lego, Guiness, Slurpees, etc. where they already have large and viral audience built in (i.e. college kids). I have been doing a lot of reading on facebook. Their demographic certainly has shifted a lot since last year.

Cheers,

Cindy :)

Cheryl,

Facebook has been on my mind for quite some time now as another online marketing venue for my mortgage business. Need to look into it a bit more and then go from there. Now I know where to go for tutorials.

Cheryl, It is great to point this out to people, I have been using the business pages for a while now and I really like all of the information I can display there. Not only can I provide information but I can interact with others on a new level that a website doesn't always provide. More people shoud be using this part of facebook. You beat me to the post but I am glad it is here. Great work!

04/22/2008 11:46 AM by Brett Baker, E-Pro, GRI (Coldwell Banker, Gordon Co. Realtors)

I have been wondering WHY you would want a business page and your personal page? Anyone? Just curious.

06/04/2008 03:39 PM by Mike Slager - Holland, MI Realtor (Greenridge Realty)

Thanks for the post -- I've been thinking that I wanted to build "Group" pages -- for some of the local neighborhoods in my area.

I'm still a bit confused on how you separate your "Business" from your "Personal" pages on Facebook.  I'm sure there's a way, I just haven't found the road yet.
