13 Comments on Putnam County Animal Shelter needs your help
Yup, they see a squirrel and it's all over. My Molly dog is a runner, which is why she's chipped. My beloved Poppy dog was not a runner and what a difference. Yes, it happens. I hope that the Putnam County Animal Shelter gets all the help it needs and then some!!
Me too Carla. Love the story you told about why you named Poppy ... cute. Also why our skitty kitty got her name. We don't have our dogs chipped, but in the 4 years they've gotten away from me just twice and NOT out of my sight, but I really should look into it.
Tammy - Great post to spread the word about Putnam County Animal Shelter, hopefully they get lots of donations and supplies.
Tammy, I think people believe that county run shelters get all their supplies from budget money...not so much. There is always something people can do for their county shelter...including their time.
Michelle- me too I have called everyone I know to tell them to save their newspapers.
Mona- I spoke to someone at the shelter the other day and she said their "budget" has been impacted SO much by fuel prices. We have a large county so while the gas being so much higher than it was when the budget was done it has sucked away money that could have been used for food and supplies. I am working hard to do what I can to help. They do a great job here and donate much of their time to posting cute "please adopt me" photos on facebook (which really isn't in their job description) and working with the area Humane Society to get the ones that don't get adopted in a timely fashion out to foster homes to save their lives. I adore the people who work at my local shelter. They are animal lovers first, employees second.
Hi Tammy, I think it's a wonderful thing to find homes for these loving pets. They need all the help and donations they can get to continue having shelters for our furry friends.
Our granddaughter Chassy had been looking for any newspaper articles about her activities for her high school scrapbook.. She was volunteering at the local monthly shelter clinic this month. spreading newspapers out and found an article that she didn't have..complete with photo and all. She got rewarded in more than one way for helping that day.
Tammy: I think all animal shelters, everywhere need help more than ever. With the economy still down and people still losing jobs...they are more desperate than ever.
Jane- I actually just "waited" to have a cat neutuered until I had a closing. He was inside, so not out making kittens, but I so understand the affordability of animals. I think it has a lot to do with the number of animals they currently have. Sad.
Jerry- I love animals so much and we have 5 at home and currently I have one at the office, I do what I can to help.
Judi- sounds like a win win. And good for your granddaughter to be volunteering. That's great.
Well this is a tough post. I really can't have any more animals but I promise I will send a donation to a local shelter. Promise
Liz- everyone can't take in an animal Liz. But sometimes they'd just love to have a couple hours of time, some old newspapers or towels, a bag of dog or cat food, a few bucks... there is SO much people can do.
I've been mulling over adding another rescue doggie to my family. You may have pushed me over the edge, Tammy. I'll let you know what happens.
Chris- I'll be watching. Never enough fur love at my house. I would have brought Jack home to stay, but he had a serious fear of dogs.
