Its Saturday morning and I was watching  ESPN College Gameday with Corso, Herbstreit and Fowler.

They talk about one of the upcoming games -- Oregon State vs Oregon.  Its a big game because its a rivalry, however, the real story was about sacrifice that occured earlier in the spring -May 29th to be exact.

After I cleared away the tears of joy -- I said to myself -- I have to share this story in this age of alienation(future post).

Most of us know how much time coaches spend with each other and the bonds they develop with each other and the players.

Laurie Cavanaugh, Mike Cavanaugh wife of offensive line coach-Oregon State was in need of a kidney donor.  After a search and potentiial  donors Danny Langsdorf(offensive coordinator - Oregon State) gets tested and he's a match.

The transplant was a success and a testament to sacrifice and how sports is a microcosm of LIFE.  Imagine the lessons those players learned as one of their coaches gave the ultimate gift.

7 Comments on Kidney Transplant - a gift of LIFE.

That's a story that I'd much rather hear, instead of more of the sordid drama the news prefers!

My mother is a 20 year survivor of a kidney transplant.  The hospitals are filled with amazing stories like this....sadly, like Leigh states, we never hear the good news.

Aziz, what an amazing story of sacrifice and respect. In sports it is so easy to let rivalries get in the way of decency. We need to always remember that while competition is fun and OK, it should never overshadow the importance of our fellow man

I donated a kidney to my ex brother in law, and the whole thing was set into motion to happen 7 years ago when I quit drinking. (not to preach) but GOD has a plan for everyones life. Nothing that set the stage for me to do what I did was planned (by me anyway) I just kinda stumbled into it. I highly recommend that anyone who has considered donating to "just do it" I'd do it again of I could. Anyone that has any questions or wants to know more can email me. I'll be happy to respond.

Didn't Ron Springs of the Cowboys get a kidney from former team mate Everson Walls? That was another feel good story. But, it looks like Ron will not make it as he has slipped into a coma. How sad.
